Cassidy Nolen #1 Posted March 2, 2007 Idea, Between this community and my Corvette community, I would like to suggest a project: What if we could gather about 100 GameBoy SP's (preferably new in box) and a game or two each to donate and ship to the American troops in the middle east? Maybe this would extend into the recovery hospitals such as Walter Reed, too. Living in DC I have an appreciation for what we see on the news. The conditions that we ask our injured troops to live in are deplorable in an area that is not somewhere they can easily get out and go other places. It makes no difference how you feel about the war, I am looking to support the human beings that are in it. These troops are where we can say a little "thank you" for the freedoms we enjoy. I don't have a master plan yet, but I was thinking maybe set up a paypal donation site or take checks/mo's and/or game donations. Then when we have a big package of materials, see if we could find a group about the same size as the number of supplies we have. Ship them on over, maybe getting a discount from Fed Ex. or UPS to do it. Not looking to change the world, just trying to look out for a few folks caught up in some hard times. Thoughts are welcome but I ask you not to flame the war debate. It serves no purpose and only divides. I am looking to act generously for others, not hear about "war" this or that. Video #2 Posted March 3, 2007 Actually, shipping crates of SP's to our boys overseas (heh, that rymed) actually sounds like a good Idea to me. Try your local Church, they may have a setup already for such an event. Our local church did, and we sent a bunch of Movies, books and music over to them. I think there were a few older systems too. Bill Brasky #3 Posted March 4, 2007 This is a great idea. I wonder if we got 100 people to agree to it if it would be possible to get a bulk purchase deal.
128bytes #4 Posted March 5, 2007 I especially like the idea of sending the games to the GI's in recovery at VA Hospitals - they certainly have more time on their hands and have easier access to electricity to recharge their batteries. ps - the original GBA (powered by AA's) is most likely a better choice for troops in the field. pss - Liz Lulu's troopbatteries.com AA battery drive is a noble and great cause and is worth supporting as well.
