Math You #1 Posted March 4, 2007 Hi. Just wondering if anybody has a picture of the 7800 scart socket that was used on the secam version of the console. I've found a console with an odd looking grey socket on the back right hand side but it doesn't look like a conventional scart socket Thanks Matt
alex_79 #2 Posted March 4, 2007 The 7800 sold in France has a female 13 pin DIN connector on the console. The cable has a male din connector at one end and the standard scart at the other one and it's the same used for the Atari ST. Here there's the pinout for the cable. That's not a Secam console: it uses PAL games and outputs an RGB signal.

Yep, if you have found one of these French PAL models you are in for a treat, no more nasty RF, and no mods to get a decent picture out of it. And play all your Pal 2600 games. Math You #4 Posted March 5, 2007 Yeah, it's that perfect RGB picture that I'm after Did the UK version have a 13 pin din socket aswell?
PacManPlus #5 Posted March 5, 2007 hmmm.... Is it possible to pick one of these up, and swap the bios to make it an NTSC unit with an RGB output?
Spector #6 Posted March 5, 2007 hmmm.... Is it possible to pick one of these up, and swap the bios to make it an NTSC unit with an RGB output? Good question, because a PAL machine will be 17% slower than NTSC, won't it?
Math You #7 Posted March 5, 2007 The graphics chip might be different aswell?
+Mitch #8 Posted March 5, 2007 hmmm.... Is it possible to pick one of these up, and swap the bios to make it an NTSC unit with an RGB output? Well... Modding the 7800 would require swapping out the TIA and Maria chips as well as one of the crystals, an inductor and moving a handful of jumpers. Also, I think the RGB Decoder card would need to be modded, I don't know what that would require. Probably easier to just get a S-Video board for your NTSC 7800. Math You #10 Posted March 6, 2007 get a french machine, there on ebay all the time Good idea. The one I've seen is being sold as untested. I think I'll keep looking for something I know will work.
Math You #11 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) I finally got a Secam 7800 with a scart cable (hooray!) but all the 7800 games are in black and white (boo!). Does anyone know what the problem might be? The 2600 games are all in colour. BTW I'm using it with a PAL TV. Thanks Edited July 1, 2008 by Math You

mimo #13 Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Don't forget that the output is RGB, you must make sure that your TV can "accept" RGB. Sometimes if there is more than 1 scart input, only one of them will be RGB, or you may be able to go into the system setup and set the input to RGB If you want to sell it let me know Edited July 2, 2008 by mimo
Math You #14 Posted July 2, 2008 Good advice guys. Perhaps the TV is only receiving a Secam composite video signal?
mimo #15 Posted July 2, 2008 Well, PAL composite at any rate. Maybe ask a friend/neighbor/passing tramp if you can try the 7800 out on their TV before jumping in and trouble shooting the cable/console. What is the brand and model of TV that you are currently using?
+Mitch #16 Posted July 2, 2008 I don't think it outputs composite at all. The fact that you are getting color on 2600 games leads me to suspect that something is wrong in the 7800 color circuit. It may just need the 7800 color pot tweaked but it's hard to tell without checking it out. Mitch
mos6507 #17 Posted July 2, 2008 It's such a shame that the US never got its own version of SCART.
+Mitch #18 Posted July 2, 2008 It's such a shame that the US never got its own version of SCART. Too true. Only recently have we got component even. Mitch
Math You #19 Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Tried connecting it to another PAL TV and this time it was black, white and light green! I thought about adjusting some of the components in the 7800 but I don't want to mess things up. Reckon I'll just stick with the 2600 cartridges (that's all I bought it for really).
