Vic George 2K3 #4 Posted March 4, 2007 (edited) Haven't broken my DS Lite yet, and don't hope to do so. But seriously, is the original model DS that "chunky", like the original Gameboy kind of "chunky"? Edited March 4, 2007 by Vic George 2K3
AtariJr #5 Posted March 4, 2007 my ds is perfectly fine.. never even had a broken hinge.. what exactly is breaking on your lite?
rustblackend #6 Posted March 4, 2007 Been thinking about buying a DS. What exactly is the difference between the old style one and the lite? Is it just the size? Whats a good price for a used old style one?

Jim My original DS has the same thing but it's a row of pixels on the top screen. Just like you said though, I only notice it when the screen is black and it's still not that big of a deal, not to me at least. I bought it on launch day so I didn't want to bother trying to return it since they were sold out everywhere.

JB #11 Posted March 4, 2007 Been thinking about buying a DS. What exactly is the difference between the old style one and the lite? Is it just the size? Whats a good price for a used old style one? The Lite also has different button construction(it doesn't use the GBASP-style flat buttons), moves start and select, and has brighter screens.
rustblackend #12 Posted March 5, 2007 Do both styles have the backlight (like GBASP2)?
CGQuarterly #13 Posted March 5, 2007 Do both styles have the backlight (like GBASP2)? No. The chubby DS's screen is comparable to an original SP (some say it is brighter but I disagree), while the DS Lite has a screen much like the SP2. Chris

Chris Actually, the original DS screen was backlit. Just not as brightly as the SP2. So it's not exactly supernova bright, but you won't get the irregularities of the SP's festering pile.
