Chris++ #26 Posted March 5, 2007 The best version I`ve ever seen is on the C-64. Synapse did a terrific job. The scrolling`s perfectly smooth, and the relative perspectives are easier to make out than in any other version. The graphics were so good for the time that it practically looked like a TV cartoon. Bill Brasky #27 Posted March 5, 2007 Anyone remember Zaxxon cereal? I remember getting my mom to buy it. There was a red filter lens prize inside the cereal and you had to use it to look at some card to see if you won a Zaxxon machine.

Gregory DG #29 Posted March 5, 2007 I remember Pac-Man cereal... An Asteroids cereal would have been interesting. The bulk of it could be the rocks, and the spaceship and UFO's could have been marshmallows.
+Cafeman #30 Posted March 5, 2007 I've been playing the heck out of the PS2 Sega Genesis Collection Zaxxon. I waited so long to play an arcade-perfect port. I finally destroyed all the planes in one level. "only 1,000 points? What a ripoff!". After all, each satellite dish is 1,000 points; going after all the planes is hardly worth the risk of dying. I'm still not very good at it, I've only gotten about 40k so far, and that represents several nights of game-after-game. I didn't like the 16K Atari 8bit Zaxxon/5200 Zaxxon much. Too much is removed from it, and the 5200's mushy buttons cramp my hands (but use a Genesis pad w/converter, much better). But there is a 24K or 32K version of Zaxxon on the A8, it is much more full featured. Super Zaxxon was exciting but the fast scroll speed ruined. You don't have the proper time to steer left/right and pick of things!
bdog_147 #31 Posted March 6, 2007 I have this now on the sega genesis collection (ps2) and still like this game and still find it hard . Is it Zaxxon on the ps2 version? Or is it Super Zaxxon.. I know on the PSP version it's Super Zaxxon Zaxxon. The original.
bdog_147 #32 Posted March 6, 2007 (edited) I loved the arcade game but I sucked at it. Seems a lot people suck at this game, myself included . It is nice to see that other people like this game and heard of it. I thought this game was rare for some reason. Iv'e never heard people that i know talk about this game. Crazy Climber #34 Posted March 6, 2007 I have to be honest, I kind of hate zaxxon. The game just bugs me
Fellow Atari Man #35 Posted March 6, 2007 there was a super zaxxon?? I never knew that.... It wasn't a big hit, I only saw it at one or two locations ever myself. Fast and difficult, you flew through a tunnel at one point. Pretty neat. I've heard of a Zaxxon Motherbase or something. a sega 32x game. Different game. Reviews were pretty brutal. Heard it had a two player deathmatch version, but it's not like you flew through the space platforms or anything, it was just you and the other player on a blank playfield; whee! I liked the original a lot, it was pretty cool. I remember seeing the first person get to the second platform not long after it came out yelling "how do you get past those things?" when he kept on dying on the forcefields, since no one knew (at the time) that you had to fire and then change altitude to go through the gaps in the forcefields
supercat #36 Posted March 6, 2007 The professor then picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. Whereupon one of the students took a can of brew, opened it, and poured it into the "full" jar of sand, announcing "And even when your life is full of everything else, there's always time for beer!" NE146 #37 Posted March 6, 2007 I loved the arcade game but I sucked at it. Seems a lot people suck at this game, myself included . Well I know I suck at it But I remember my friend in high school could play Zaxxon indefinitely! He'd play for an hour or more until he got bored and just leave it with several lives left. I used to watch him play a lot after school which I'm glad I did since I dont think I've seen any other really skilled Zaxxon players aside from him.. as I sure aint one of them It is nice to see that other people like this game and heard of it. I thought this game was rare for some reason. Iv'e never heard people that i know talk about this game. You must be pretty young

Fast and difficult, you flew through a tunnel at one point. Pretty neat. It was pretty much universally canned by almost everyone. Read a lot of bad reviews on it as well. Murph74 #40 Posted March 9, 2007 Yeah, Crazy Climber beat me to it-- on the cereal front, I remember just a couple cereals... - Pac Man Cereal (With marshmellow ghosts!) - Donkey Kong cereal (Capt Crunch ripoff from Ralston) - DKJ Cereal (Capt Crunch-berry rip off also from Ralston IIRC) - Nintendo Cereal System (2 cereals in one _ SMB and Zelda- packaged like Nerds candy. Also from Ralston. Commercial is here: http://gameads.gamepressure.com/tv_game_co...ial.asp?ID=1096 ) That's it for what I remember-- although, I'm sure there's more. Here's a link to a great site that shows some of the serious crap that has been used to market cereals-- including the above mentioned ones. http://www.lavasurfer.com/cereal-guide.html Can't find or recall anything on the Zaxxon cereal, expect the Post Cereal brand's video game contest packins-- they were like mini board games that you could win arcade prizes with-- they pop up on ebay still every now and then. Off to lunch-- this made me hungry.
Inky #41 Posted March 11, 2007 The Coleco ADAM version was really cool. It's a "Supergame" version that has some features from Super Zaxxon arcade but is a unique version. Actually, it has none of the features from Super Zaxxon arcade. All the extra features are new and original

JamesD #45 Posted March 12, 2007 The "unofficial" Zaxxon for the Coco3 was pretty good. It was by the same author that made the "official" one for the standard Coco 1&2. It was called Z89 (for Zaxxon '89 I assume).

Chris++ #47 Posted March 13, 2007 Easy, man. Perhaps the CV and Adam versions are getting mixed up? (Weren`t they both playable on the Adam, or am I accidentally full of shit?)
