Best PS2 Games

Recommended Posts

Well, since I'm a Sony fanboy, I found it amusing that out of this list:

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/772/772296p1.html

there was only one game I even liked. There are a few that make me go "meh" and the vast majority are utter fucking garbage.

Even with regards to the one game they put on the list I actually liked, I wouldn't have put that particular iteration of the franchise on the list.

Is God Of War really that great? I never even played a demo of it. It pretty much comes across a gory hack and slash...

i personally liked devil may cry better, but thats just me.. i dont get what all the hoo ha is about.

and holy shit, "I'm a Sony fanboy" he admitted it! :rolling:

I'm surprised to see the Maximo series absent from that list, personally. It was always one of my favorite things about the PS2. Also, where the hell is Ape Escape 2 and/or 3? Bah.

How the hell did TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT end up on that list? And Suikoden III was the shark-jumping moment for that series, playing nothing like the first two exceptional games in the series. Even Suiko V doesn't belong on that list, but at least it bore some slight resemblance to the original Playstation titles. Damn, IGN... does your incompetence know no bounds?

Wait, the PS2 doesn't just play Katamari Damacy?!? (runs to check)

Oh neat, the lid opens and you can put other discs in! I never had a cause to try that before :)

No kidding! The fact that Katamari isn't anywhere on that list is downright insane! FFX was okay..but I eventually lost interest in playing it and never finished it so I have no idea what the ending is about.

And while I do agree that Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando is an excellent title, I think that Jak and Daxter should have ranked higher.

I also haven't really played God of War...and yet I now own well over 60 PS2 titles...and that isn't one of them. Guess I need to get that somday ehh?

Hmmm, I thought maybe this was a list of ya'll's favorite games. I thought I'd get some recommendations as to how to make my PS2 less of a dust magnet.

If you dont own God of War just throw away the PS2. You dont need it.

;)

(Yes its that good!)

I also kind of liked the Champions of Norrath games, Devil May Cry 3, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Sly Cooper series, Activision Anthology and Desgea.

That list wasnt so bad, it was good to see amplitude and rez on there, FFX wasnt all that great if you ask me. But when it comes to internet list of best games, i have seen much much worse.

Wow, and here I thought IGN's incompetence was limited to best-of-the year awards, website design, reviews for Gamecube, DS, and Xbox, and writing intelligently. As a non fan of the PS2, I have to admit, I figured if they were servicing anyone it was you guys. Guess they aren't even doing that.

There are a few games on the list that I liked, but these lists almost always have some ridiculous entries. I do agree with IGN on FFX (I think it's one of the best FF's ever) and it's nice to see Rez up there, although just for kicks I looked up their original review score and it only got an 8.5. Guess that shows how trustworthy their reviews are. (GameSpot's score was even lower; I think 7.9.)

KD's omission is huge. I honestly think they must have just forgot. That should really be up at or near the top of the list; this game is legendary already. I also think it singlehandedly proved that there is still a market even in modern gaming for simple, inventive ideas.

The PS2 will be remembered for Katamari Damacy long after IGN is dead and gone.

btw, what offends *me* personally about this list is the fact that it has GTA:SA and GTA3 but no GTA:VC. GTA:VC was clearly superior to GTA3 and arguably superior to GTA:SA (it wasn't by most technical measures, but some prefer the aesthetic). It drove us absolutely nuts at Rockstar when people would say GTA3 was better than GTA:VC, and it still drives me nuts even having left the company long ago now.

:ponder: i never got that .. sorry, i thought ffx was ubar annoying.. tidus really just ticked me off and the sphere system crap was annoying.

as far as rez , i agree , it was nice to see it there.. and i had to laugh and agree with yoru statement, as it was so true that thier reviews count for shit. they have done that alot... saying zelda tp is the best zelda, but it got a lower score than Oot, or that sonic and the secret rings is the best 3d sonic, and heroes scored better. or that wii sports has so much more replay value than madden, and yet it got a lower score.. they dont think about games, and i really honestly think they play these games for like a couple hours before making a review... its really sad to see what they come up with.
