kotep Posted March 24, 2007 Share Posted March 24, 2007 umm i just got the atari vox for my 2600...can anyone please help as to how i use this thing.......im also using a mac so im not even sure if can do this......do i need a supercharger? I'm sending it to a guy in the UK (VideoDave) and he'll forward it on to the US, so if any of you want to try it out please contact Dave. The EEPROM (high score save memory) utility software isn't done yet, but you can play around with the AVox version of PhraseALator (I put all the drivers and software on a mini CDROM). The Atarivox is essentially a memory card + sound chip module. It can be used only for games that are designed to make use of it, such as some of those available at the atari age store. (Astar and Strat-O-gems Deluxe for instance) For those games to use it, it must be plugged into the second player port. To hear any sounds it generates, you'll need to hook up a pair of external speakers to it, as the atari 2600 can't mix sounds internally. If you're programming a new game and want to use either the sound/speech capabilities of the atarivox to enhance the game, or use the eprom portion for saving highscores or other data, you'll need to find the info for it which should be here in the forums somewhere - someone wrote a driver you can plug into your program to help with it iirc.
