+kisrael #1 Posted March 25, 2007 I was just catching up on Penny Arcade ... good thing, too, or else I mighta missed the release of Worms on Xbox arcade! (I guess http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Live_Arcade has a sorted list (under the Unpligged heading) that I should look at to catch up if I don't play 360 for a while.) I tried the demo and then went ahead with the download. It seems like they've kept the interface nice and pretty simple, a single jump button (come to think of it, why did the old version offer four seperate jumps on 2 buttons?), an easier to see weapons menu w/ labels, etc... and I haven't gotten into it but it seems like the weapons set up is simpler as well, so that's really good. This game, on Dreamcast, remained a favorite w/ my gaming group. In fact, it's why I finally got a cellphone in 2001. (Long story) So has anyone gotten into it? Obviously it's only worth it multiplayer... and I guess preferably local, not online. It's kind of funny that it's back to plain old "Worms"... maybe it's back to basics after "Armegeddon" "World Party' etc etc... of course those were just name-changes and a few new weapons more than any core differences. +kisrael #3 Posted March 25, 2007 I'm excited, but reserved, because I've always played Worms on the PC. I don't know how the controls will be. But it's only a few dollars, so... ah, I've played the console versions mostly though I remember the PC version of... World Party I guess? had more fun napalmy stuff, I wasn't sure why they didn't do that on the DC anyway, the trial download is free, and should let you get an idea of it. I don't think the analog stick is much of a handicap.
Clint Thompson #4 Posted March 25, 2007 Worms is great fun..... but the XBLA seems to be missing the variety in backdrops and layouts that many other versions have. Of course I'm sure this will be rectified in the future with downloadable content. It's only good offline if your trying to get the achievements or have never played it before. On-line is pretty much the way to do it I'm anxious to see what they make available for future DLC.
IronMongeR #5 Posted March 25, 2007 It's not bad, though some of the single player challenges are ridiculous. In particular, Challenge 13 springs to mind, which took me ages to finally complete thanks to the insanely accurate AI.

I barely knew there was a single player version. People actually go to other people's houses and play games together? That's so last year! Get with the times!!1! Seriously though.... *and I blame xbox live for it* my friends and I hardly ever do the Dreamcast-type game gatherings like we once used to... those were the days.... having a room full of buddies playing some 4-player worms, Rush 2049 and Virtua Tennis. No one leaves their home anymore because it's just easier. Trust me.... I really prefer having people over to play the game than playing online... but people move further away and with Live! you can at least continue to game with them.... even though sadly it's not in the same room any longer. +kisrael #8 Posted March 26, 2007 Yeah. I've lost at least half my gaming posse to moving but I'm looking to build it up a bit. It's worth it. I guess part of the problem is that most of my friends didn't have consoles themselves, so Live wouldn't even be an option. And the few times I've tried online gaming w/ strangers... bleh. Couldn't get into it.
Clint Thompson #9 Posted March 26, 2007 FINALLY made it to the 19th challenge..... 13 seems like over kill but after 15 it eases up on you (I guess since so many are grouped together it's easier to kill them) but now I'm hit on 19..... =)
IronMongeR #10 Posted March 29, 2007 I'm up to mission 19 too. I'm determined to clear all 20 challenges and get the final acheivement.
