iX NES Xi #26 Posted March 31, 2007 I got one Wednesday, and the first time I booted it I got the 3 lights. I called M$ and they made me go through troubleshooting and eventually they came to the conclusion that my HDD was bad. (system booted w/o the HDD inserted).M$ said that they would send me a new one but I would have to pay shipping both ways. I asked them why I had to pay shipping on something that was their fault, and they continued to reply with "company policy, sorry" The next day (Thursday) I called Dell who I ordered it from, and they took full responsibility and sent me a new console the next day (Friday). free shipping, and a prepaid sticker to send the troubled one back. Although the first time I booted it I got the 3 red lights again, but after that I shut it off and took out the HDD and reinserted it and it worked. Mendon #30 Posted April 4, 2007 (edited) There have been lots of stories about the 360 ruining disks. I've never encountered the problem myself and have thought that the "rings" people get on their disks are probably due to the 360 being moved while the disk is inside. But then I came across a story on one of the magazine web sites about MS, for a limited time, replacing any damaged "Microsoft Studio" game disks that you may have. I followed the link in the story and sure enough, right on the official MS website are the rules and form for replacing your disks: Link to info on MS Website Read into it what you will, but it sure seems to me like MS is saying (without admitting it) that the 360 does indeed damage disks. I can think of no other reason why this program was instituted. I mean, were the company exec's sitting around one day and someone said "Hey, ya know.... why don't we replace any 1st party disks that our customers may have accidently scratched?" I've said it before and I'll say it again... the 360 is the MOST fragile and unreliable gaming system I've ever owned. AtariJr #32 Posted May 2, 2007 thast what im worried about... why cant they just sell the ps3 hardware with the 360 games to play on it lol. the ps3 system looks newer, feels newer, and is more reliable... but theres nothing to play on it that i care about.. and all the franchises that i like, ace combat, sw battlefront.. are all going to MS. im seriously stuck here. if they were the same price it would be even harder to decide.. tantone56 #33 Posted June 17, 2007 This is complete bullshit. How can a company get away with selling so many defective systems? I was on the fence about what system to get for awhile, but after hearing these horror stories I am starting to lean towards a PS3.

I was on the fence about what system to get for awhile, but after hearing these horror stories I am starting to lean towards a PS3. Actually there have been reports of PS3 and Wii's breaking down as well!! Granted not near as often as the launch 360, but you never know when the horror will strike. If I were you I'd probably stick with a cart based system (Besides the original front load NESs) maybe Colecovision or something or if your set on a modern system consider picking up an extended warrantee, something that I'd highly recommend for any electronic you plan on investing more than $500 in regardless who makes it. liveinabin #35 Posted June 17, 2007 I'm really keen to get a 360 (mainly for the XBLA stuff) but of the 7 people I know who have one, only one of them hasn't had it die on them. That's totally unacceptable. If they get a redesigned model out soonish (with 45 nanometer chipset) then I might buy, otherwise I just can't.

I own an Atari 2600, Vectrex, Colecovision, NES, Genesis, Super Nes, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and a Wii. with all of these sysytems I always finD myself going back to my original Atari 2600 for fun. That being said, I think I should enter the market for at least on more to fill the little void in my heart from not having a true next gen system. I have a 360 that's over a year old and it's working great. The newer made 360s work as fine as anything else on the market. I will say PS3 does look a little more high end, but as a pure gaming machine I've never been happier with anything than I have been with my 360. +Random Terrain #38 Posted June 18, 2007 The newer made 360s work as fine as anything else on the market. That makes me feel a bit better about buying one near the end of the year. I can't wait to play some of those Xbox 360 games, even if it's just demos.

The earlier your purchase, the better chance you have of it crapping out I think, It does seem like most folks that bought a 360 in the first half year, had to return it in a few months...(or even weeks). If you look at the folks that held off a bit, the failure rate is much much lower you will find, I personally would still get the extended warrantee. Its not that much and it'll give you peace of mind. Add me to the list of folks that had to get their original 360s replaced. I had mine 2 weeks and sent it back due to freezing on Perfect Dark Zero. That was really the only game I had issues with, but my thought was if I just spent $700+ on a new systems (inc games and accessories) every damn game better work perfectly!! Anyways, The whole thing went off without a hitch (Folks that say MS has the worst customer service must have a different support number than me) and I got sent a new system in about 2 weeks and in the year plus since, haven't had an issue. *Knock on wood* Edited June 18, 2007 by moycon

+Cobra Kai #42 Posted June 19, 2007 I actually called MS customer support recently to complain about having to talk to people who cannot speak proper English (Indians). The guy just kind of giggled about it.
