Wow. I just wanted to find out how many copies of Super Mario Bros 3 had been sold for another thread and stumbled upon this Wiki-list. Very interesting stuff. Mario is ALL OVER that final top seller list. Some surprises too...

whoa that was pretty cool, mario is the best selling franchise of all time i guess.....i was surprised at how much gta sold in these past few years.

why would mario be a suprise,the fact that theres about 200 Mario games doesn't hurt the numbers, same with Sonic, not like Nintendo or Sega haven't beat their mascots to death or anything.

Pitfall!, Pac-Man, Combat, Space Invaders, at least.

 

Wikipedia cites 4 million for Pitfall!, 7 million for Pac-Man, 1.5 million for E.T., can't find a cite for Space Invaders.

not really a surprise, more like a recognition, like "Mario really is the best selling ranchise of all time"

Interesting that SMB 3 is still number one . . . even more interesting is that there isn't a single Sega game in the top twenty

Heh, 40 million copies of Super Mario Bros., and i have at least one flea market vendor a month tell me that it's a hard-to-find antique, hence the $15 price tag. Awesome.

 

Interesting stuff on that list though....i notice that the Zelda series, while certainly a good seller, isn't always the juggernaut it comes across as.

 

It's also of interest to note that there will probably never be a day when a game unseats SMB3's sales record. Nothing on that list is even *close*. I think the days where everybody owns the same system and are waiting on the same game are long over. So no matter what happens in the future, Nintendo's always got that "Best Selling Game EVER" title to fall back on.
