TT Performance On An ST ?

Recommended Posts

Here's a silly question just for curiosity sake. Could an ST be upgraded to give it the same power and graphics performance as a TT ? I know that STs' can have faster processors fitted, but could the ST graphics chip be replaced with a TT one ?

Everything can be done. You can not solve it only with replace of graphic chip. To use TT's graphic chip in other machine you need a lot of changes/add on-s .

Some logic for addressing that chip. Probably 16-32 bit converter (data bus on TT is 32bit, on ST 16bit)

Adding RAM for graphic card.

Changes in TOS to work with that card.

And some things more, for sure.

All in all, too complicated. Better buy some used TT.

you have to add some card with 030 CPU. I have seen the PAK030. It was pretty fast, but not easy to put it together and install it.

You could use a Pak/3 (030 at fourty or fifty mhz), FRaK (FastRam up to 64megs) and Panther (graphics solution with et4k or ATI chipset).

To speed this up a little bit more you can mod the mainboard to run at 10 or even 12 mhz.
