AussieAtari #1 Posted April 3, 2007 I've been reading hints and rumours that there may be a new version of the DS released this year, can anyone confirm this?
AtariJr #2 Posted April 3, 2007 havent heard anything.. and i doubt they need a new version.. the lite works just fine. and besides the advance, i dont think portable for nintendo has gone past 2 incarnations. and even the advance is pushing it as the micro, the third incarnation isnt really all that an advance offers (bc compatiblity.. and its not called an advance)
Rogmeister #3 Posted April 3, 2007 Yeah, the DS Lite seems very popular. The only thing I can see them doing is maybe making it available in more colors or something like that.

Vic George 2K3 #5 Posted April 4, 2007 I'd rather see multiple color cases for the existing DS Lite.
ninjarabbit #6 Posted April 4, 2007 Nintendo can barely keep up with the demand for the DS Lite so I doubt there will be a new one this year at least
Video #7 Posted April 4, 2007 Yes, though probably not a hardware revision. There will definately be one made in another color, or with some pokemon characture tacked on. Why you gotta ask anyways
liveinabin #8 Posted April 4, 2007 There'll doubtless be a special edition for Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (only in japan though). Possibly even a special Zelda one whenever that gets released. Japan has already had it's Pokemon DS lite (I arrived there 1 week after it's release and they were long gone!) but US might get one too. As for a complete new model. Never. It's always difficult to second guess Nintendo (especially lately) but the DS lite is as perfect as the DS needs to be. The GBA only had updates because there were things wrong with it. AussieAtari #9 Posted April 4, 2007 Why you gotta ask anyways She Who Must Be Obeyed has stopped using her DS "Heavy" and is constantly using my Lite and leaving the battery flat or almost run out (much the same as a teenager leaving a car without petrol in the tank). She claims the screen is more responsive when she is playing Boggle - her latest game of addiction. Plus she loves toys that are pink (keep it clean), so I was considering getting her a Pink DS and would wait until later in the year if a new one was coming out and that way we'd not have yet another duplicate system in the house. Looks like she'll be getting a Pink DS Lite for Mother's Day now.
Gregory DG #10 Posted April 4, 2007 Heh, I wonder what the next hardware iteration of the DS would be like. Remember when the DS was released? Nintendo said it wouldn't replace the Gameboy... Well, it sorta has. The GBA is nearly dead (IMO.) Maybe Nintendo will release a new Gameboy with better graphics, but with one screen? Hmm...
JB #11 Posted April 5, 2007 (edited) Remember when the DS was released? Nintendo said it wouldn't replace the Gameboy... Well, it sorta has. The GBA is nearly dead (IMO.) Maybe Nintendo will release a new Gameboy with better graphics, but with one screen? Hmm... I remember laughing at Nintendo's "no replacement" argument too. It was obvious to me they were just covering their ass. They were worried that if the DS was another Virtual Boy it might damage the GameBoy name. I'm pretty sure if the DS had flopped, they would've announced a "GameBoy Ultra" the next year, which would've been a single non-touch screen DS. Jess Ragan #12 Posted April 5, 2007 You've got to give them credit for taking that chance, though. I think part of the reason that the DS was a success is because it offers an experience unlike anything else that was available at the time. JR

I am not revealing anything about the new DS, no I won't.

If nothing else, for NOT waiting until the last minute to whip up a new portable system. I also happen to be the fan of the Virtual Boy. I think they launched it a tad earlier than it really should've been, but it was a nice system that deserved better than it got.
