AtariJr #1 Posted April 5, 2007 Ok, I booted up the ol' Saturn again and I put in some games that I recently got that I haven't played. I heard really good things graphically speaking about a game called "Tunnel B-1", so I decided to see what all the hubbub was about. I have to say.. for a stateside saturn game, everything from the developer animations in the intro to the actual game graphics are nothing to laugh at. however there is no side to side strafing, and the gun and accelerate button just dont seem to be in the right spot to me (maybe better switched?) as i always mix the two after a while of playing. The problem is that since you cant strafe, your really stuck with going back and forth while turning to try to avoid enemy fire.. which.. if youve ever played any kind of first person perspective game, you know that that relaly doesnt help as you can go back and forth all you want, if your in thier crosshairs, your screwed. I keep on dieing on the second level... the sad thing is that the control other wise is nice, the feel of the craft is nice, and the graphics are pretty nice eye candy.. just i cant get around these two major flaws. have any of you really loved so many aspects of a game and just cant play it because of simple control or other issues? Pixelboy #2 Posted April 5, 2007 have any of you really loved so many aspects of a game and just cant play it because of simple control or other issues? Resident Evil immediately comes to mind. The first version of the game I played was the Game Cube remake, and I simply couldn't get used to the tank-like controls, especially when trying to prep and aim my gun at the zombies. Bill Brasky #3 Posted April 5, 2007 Rez. Looked cool as hell but didn't feel like much of a game.
Gregory DG #4 Posted April 5, 2007 Redline, the PC version of Battlewheels. The controls were awful. Can't believe I paid full price for it. A week later it was in the bargin bins.
bust3dstr8 #5 Posted April 5, 2007 Yup, I know that crappy feeling. It happened to me with Kaze Kiri. It's always heralded as one of the best rare collectors games for the PCE, getting high reviews everywhere. I love the classic ninja games like Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, and Ninja Spirit. So, I decided to grab one. I searched for a year, which also built it up in my mind. They where right.......Kaze has great grfx, amazing fast controls, and a fantastic redbook soundtrack. Then the mind numbing repetiviness sets in.....if you play through stage 1 you pretty much played the whole game. This game spends more time in my CD player than in the PCE. Devil Crash with a nice Kaze Kiri soundtack ain't half bad
AtariJr #6 Posted April 5, 2007 (edited) well, ironically enough i found out how to strafe haha. ah well. still, the lack of enemies is now making it a bit too easy. and rez was awesome haha another game that comes to mind is rebel assualt II for the pc. i remember, that was one of my first games i got for my windows 98 computer, and trying to control that speeder bike in that one level still agrivates me to no end.. and i have yet to beat it. yet, i played the game more than any other game on my pc that year just because i wanted to like it as the idea of the game was really cool to me. +kisrael #7 Posted April 5, 2007 Its likely not old enough to be classic, but Knights of the Old Republic. Love the universe, love the design of it, can't stand the combat. I might try to give it another chance some day.

Yep - another vote here for all of the Resident Evil games. I absolutely love first person shooters, etc, but I Resident Evil just never really 'clicked' for me. Shit design, sold because of the gore. Final Fantasy was on my list in the past, but I've developed a "thing" for it lately. Getting old, reflexes shot.... Emehr #10 Posted April 5, 2007 Fourth vote for Resident Evil. I had just got the GameCube and RE was one of the first games I picked up for it. I'd played Alone in the Dark 1 - 3 on my Mac so I was familiar with the tank-like controls on a fixed background but the combat felt sluggish, especially with a knife. I would try to keep my distance but the knife wouldn't make contact. Get a little closer and the damn zombie would latch onto my character. Ugh. Super Mario 64 is taking some time to grow on me too. AtariJr #11 Posted April 6, 2007 5th on resident evil.. i never got the game really. i got RE4 on the gc when it came out because of the hype, but i honestly thought the control was too sluggish and restricting.. you couldnt run away from the zombies, and your shots were too slow. I second Kights of the old Republic. I really really wanted to like the game. In fact the world was really amazingly well done, as was the story (what i saw of it). but damn, the combat was so damn annoying. I hated the "oh let me just stand here while you shoot me... and wait 10 minutes before i can kill you"...yea.. not fun.
Tempest #12 Posted April 6, 2007 Dragon Warrior VII. I loved Dragon Warriors I-IV and VIII, but I just couldn't get into VII. Maybe it was the fact that I had played over an hour and hadn't gotten in one battle, or maybe it was the cruddy muddy PSX graphics, but try as I might I couldn't get into it. I may try again after beating VIII, but I think it will be more of a grit my teeth type of thing. Tempest

jerseystyle #17 Posted April 6, 2007 GTA Vice City- Got it a year after it came out, had heard all the hype, played it for a few days, put it down, and have never wanted to touch it again- that early mission when you have to kill that cook, dealing with the awful aiming controls (thought the controls were completely non intuitive) just broke my spirits. p_b #18 Posted April 6, 2007 FF XII. At least until now. I quite liked FFX, so I was looking forward to XII. However, it's been in my PS2 for about 3 or 4 weeks now...unplayed after I put something like 4 hours into it :-(

Student Driver #22 Posted April 6, 2007 Any of the Tomb Raider games. Horrible controls, graphics that seemed clunky even when they were new, etc. Cardfighter's Clash for the NGPC. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo-- heard great things about it, I know it's supposed to be so great, but I just don't feel any sort of love for the game. MetalSlime23 #23 Posted April 6, 2007 I've tried to like the Halo games and the Harvest Moon series. I do like the idea behind Harvest Moon, but the game is too damn "cutsey"
+kisrael #24 Posted April 6, 2007 Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo-- heard great things about it, I know it's supposed to be so great, but I just don't feel any sort of love for the game. Yeah... I hunted this up when looking for "The Next Tetris Attack". And while there's some element of the see-saw, where your attack risks providing ammo for the counterattack, it just lacks the charm and simplicity... especially with having to memorize the patterns for the individual fighters. Mindcircus #25 Posted April 6, 2007 (edited) Quake II. Quake and Quake III are great... but something's really missing with the middle one. I could never get into it, it didn't 'feel' right. I should add on the retro front: it broke my heart to beat Surround's AI in 2 minutes flat. Absolutely broke my heart.
