what is the easiest/cheapest way to upgrade 520st?

Recommended Posts

I have an extra 520ST and I would like to upgrade it to at least 1meg of ram. What is the easiest and/or cheapest method?

Any advice is appreciated.

By 520 ST it is never easy - need to solder additional RAM - no sockets provided.

As for price - most of electronicians has old RAM chips around in their draws, desks. If you know someone, you may get chips for free.

If not, and not familiar with electronic, soldering, it can cost little more...

Depends on the model.

Pretty sure that later ones had a blank row which you could just populate with RAM.

Best and easiest way to upgrade is to buy a 1040ST or better ST.

Well, guess one way to tell is to open it up and see if it has the sockets for more ram.

As for dip ram, I go to used pc stores/warehouses and search for old vid cards that have socketed ram on it. You sometimes get lucky and find old memory boards for computers that are full of dips.

Of course, if your not familiar with memory, you might not know what to look for, but it's pretty easy to figure out.

If you do have an older 520ST, then your best bet would be to buy a later version ST.
