Gregory DG #1 Posted April 13, 2007 Looking at the latest EGM (that I get for free... I'd never pay for it...) they had a brief write up of the Sega CD game, Snatcher. I remember seeing a screenshot of it when it was first released of a rotting skull with maggots eating the flesh... Always wanted to play that game, but I never had a Sega CD. So, any games you missed out on?
Rockin' Kat #2 Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) Well, That doesn't really have to be "missed out".... no... maybe you "just havent yet played". I mean.... that's what's so great about the used market and emulation and all that... so maybe you didn't buy it new... It's out there... you can still get it... unless you're dead of cource... Are you dead yet? so.... no, I really havn't missed out on any video games. Edited April 13, 2007 by Rockin Kat
+Omegamatrix #3 Posted April 13, 2007 I guess the only games I missed out on are the ones I found later, lol. Super Metroid springs to mind. If I had just one wish I would like to play Ebivision's Pacman at least once, just to say I have. I probably will never get that chance though.
Ross PK #4 Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) Ikaruga, NiGHTS into dreams and Radiant Silver Gun, are three from the top of my head, I guess I'll never play them because I'm not really interested in getting a Saturn and Ikaruga's expensive. Flojomojo #5 Posted April 13, 2007 That doesn't really have to be "missed out".... no... maybe you "just havent yet played". Yes! Who needs a Sega CD when I have a hacked XBOX? I just haven't made time for Snatcher yet. I think it might even be playable (sans gun, of course) on the GP2X. All I really need is a block of time in which to play it. Until I'm dead, I haven't missed out on it yet. A good game will always be a good game. That's why I play all the oldies we talk about here as much as the modern games. Final Fantasy is my current retro pleasure. I never bothered with the series because I didn't care for the "FF Adventure" games on the old 8-bit Gameboy. I'm discovering these oldies for the first time on the GBA and I'm really getting into them, despite their age. I'm fully confident that I'll do the same with some other games that are in my possession but are as yet unplayed, like Prince of Persia Sands of Time, or Zelda Twilight Princess. 8th lutz #6 Posted April 13, 2007 Too many snes games back in the day. What happened was back in late 1992, I finally got a genesis as a teen, shortly after I got the genesis, a snes fanboy was badmouthing my new system to the extreme including claiming all games on the sega Genesis games had the graphics and sounds of Atari 2600 games. I was so pissed at the snesfanboys to the point, when parents were offering to give a me snes, I turned it down, and got a 32x instead for Christmas due to the type of fanboys the system had. A couple years after that I regretted turning down the chance of getting snes and got 32x instead with my missing great games. It hurted me alot not getting a snes when the 32x nolonger had games made for it. As a result I missed out on Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, etc for the snes. I later got a good number of the games that missed out on, but I am still missing some games. Some of the snes games, I will not get due to cost like Crono Trigger and I don't see them on a virtual game console for a long time. For the playstation, I messed out on Vangaurd Bandits. For the genesis, I messed out on shining force, Gunstar Heroes, Sagaia and shining force 2 were they were released during the 16 bit era. I got those games now for the genesis. The thing about RPGs on the SNES...they have actually gone down in price. If you're willing to not get a box wrapped around your game, that is. Sure, you're not going to find copies of Earthbound and Chrono Trigger for 50 cents at your local thrift, but i see them around for $30 or so often enough. Never forget that when they were new, many SNES rpgs ran $60-$80 or so.
Vic George 2K3 #8 Posted April 13, 2007 SNES Smurfs would have been great to play on a real American SNES had it been released stateside.

I do own Earthbound now. I found it loose about 5 or 6 years for $10.00 at a flea market. Back in the late 90's and the early part of this decade, I thought a price of Squaresoft rpg for $30.00 was cheap at a flea market. I don't use ebay alot. I own the ps 1 copies of Final Fantasy 4 and 6 and Chrono trigger.
bdog_147 #10 Posted April 14, 2007 So, any games you missed out on? Ah, hell yes. However, all xbox games that i missed out on I have been getting used and rather cheap. Best way to buy games!
Video #11 Posted April 15, 2007 I believe by "missed out on" they meant when it was a minstream, in production, popular game. Well, maytbe not mainstream or popular, but uber cool I want that anyhow, games. Useually we missed out on them, cause we were kids and mom didn't think we needed a game with rotting flesh and maggots on the cover when they could get the pink marshmellow puff Barney's furry friends and Ferris Wheels game instead. (or because we were "mature" and would pick the maggoty rotting flesh game over barneys furry friends and ferris wheels ) I missed the whole Jag Scene. It wasn't till either 98 or 99 when I got my first system, and I paid like $50 for that and four games. Man...that thing was friggin sweet. But other than the vague memory of reading about this system back in 92 (in a hunting mag, no less) I had never even heard of this system untill around 96 or so when one of my friends from long ago moved to town and he actually had one. Pitty, if it wasn't for the fact that so many people missed out on it, this thing would have done awesomely for years more, and maybe Atari wouldn't be dead now. shadow460 #12 Posted April 17, 2007 I feel like I missed out on all three of the Colony Wars titles. I haven't seen Vengeance or Red Sun for sale since I beat the first one. It's ... definitely not a bad game at all. Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya. That was a very awesome play last year. Link's Awakening DX. I almost missed the first release, too. Majora's Mask? Maybe--I still have yet to finish that game. I've owned it almost continuously since it came out. There are a lot of good classic games out there that I have not yet played. NE146 #13 Posted April 17, 2007 That doesn't really have to be "missed out".... no... maybe you "just havent yet played". Yes! Who needs a Sega CD when I have a hacked XBOX? Well, obviously everything can be played to date. But I think the question is pretty straightforward without having to warp it.. What games did you miss out on in their heyday when everyone was enjoying it, you passed it up? For me it's easy. My answer is Pitfall 2! I totally totally ignored that game. I assumed it'd suck since I didn't really care at all for Pitfall 1 and thought it'd be more of the same. And thus, I missed out on what would have been an amazing experience I think for that time. I mean, I know myself.. and I know f I had JUST SEEN THE GAME in progress I would have definitely been grabbed by the balls But yknow, back in those days it was a little harder to check games out for the most part if you didnt' buy it, unlike today. Of course I've since played the game. But it's a different thing playing it when it was current and amazing (and I was young), vs. playing it 20 years later with retro-vision. Oh well
Gentlegamer #14 Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) I missed out on a lot of PlayStation games back in the day after my console was stolen in 1998. After that, I was out of console gaming until last May when I bought a PS2 (since then I've gotten into collecting). I remember I just started getting into NFL Gameday '98 . . . does anyone know if it would be worth revisting?
