I finally hit the 10K mark!

Recommended Posts

I know gamer points don't really mean anything I never cared that about much, but it felt good that crack the 10,000 mark. I'll admit I did get a little obessive with hitting it when I saw I was getting close. So after owning a 360 for just over a year I'm now at 10,122 points.

Heh, Good job. Personally I like the achievement points a lot. Games I normally would have played through and put aside now stay in the system for days and weeks longer trying to get 100%. Crackdown is a good example. The single player game could easily be beaten in a few days. If it wasn't for online play at that point the game would be worthless....but because I still don't have 100% achievements I still break the game out trying to "beat" it even though I've already got to the end awhile ago. To me it extends the life of your games.

Some games achievements are way too easy. I think you feel more (or I do anyways) at accomplishing 100% on the games that maybe aren't so easy. Call them only bragging rights if you want. I enjoy the hell outta them and even got some good stuff free out of participating.

Thanks a lot. The achievements gives me incentive to put in extra effort in some games, thus giving them more replay value. I'll be honest, I haven't got 1,000 point for any games yet that were HARD game for achievement points. I still feel good about games that I didn't "beat" for 1,000 points, but got tough achievements for them. Most games I find give you between 400-600 for beating them without hunting down every achievement and a lot of achievements are Live related.

Yeah to me.. it's kind of like post counts here at Atariage. I get them for just using the stuff, don't count for anything, and I generally don't notice them (aside from the Old Spice Challenge where I focused on them :P) Although I guess having it shown prominently on your card when you login you can't help but see it.

I can see how it can give you incentive to play some games more. But you gotta admit there are a couple of stupid ones. I know some people for example don't mind the "Agility Races" in Crackdown, chasing them down and doing them for points. To me though, it's just mind-numbing zero-level gameplay and not even worth doing. The way I see it, if you translate something like that to the 2D world, it might as well be a couple of blocks on the screen and you make mario jump around them in a circle for 10 minutes

But yeah.. I totally don't mind Achievement points. I think they're a great thing MS has done. But for me, they dont really add anything

..unless I can get something for them 8)

I like the peer pressure aspect of Achievement Points. It makes the passive, stupid act of playing video games into a (somewhat) social, competitive endeavor. Plus is probably contributes to game sales. I know that for games like Lego Star Wars 2, I would choose the 360 version over the Cube, PSP, PS2, or XBOX version even despite the higher cost just to get the APs ... plus the shiny graphics. ;)

Congrats Dalton!

I'm getting close as well. :)

I agree with everyone else here. I love how such a simple, relatively meaningless addition to games makes me want to play as long as possible per game to see how many achievements I can unlock. I especially enjoy the achievements that are difficult, but not impossible. (Too many to list here.)

Thanks StormSurge. I'm betting you'll for feel that slight sense of achievement I did (non pun intended) when you hit 10K too.

Beating Mettalo in Superman Returns just netted me 100 points and pushed me over the 25k mark!

My goal before the Xbox 720 comes out is to hit 100k.
