sandmountainslim #1 Posted April 15, 2007 I played a Nintendo Wii for the first time last night, a friend of mine brought it to the house to show me. Damn what a tiresome machine! You have to jerk the friggin remote around and move your body like a fool I am NOT impressed with the Wii remote at all. This just reconfirmed my commitment to make the PS2 the final new system I ever buy and stick to my NES and Atari from henceforth. Call me old! There are a LOT of well...let's just call them "Nintendo Power Subscribers" to be PC....around here that are 30 seconds from flaming you to hell and back on this though. classicgamer24 #5 Posted April 15, 2007 yea guys the classics are so much easier and of course very affordable too and it's sometime a challenge to find them if your interested hit up some flea markets, thrift stores , goodwills and salvation armies they have classic consoles at unbelievable prices
ManShowBoy #6 Posted April 15, 2007 (edited) Classics are good but you got to step up to a 360. You can play classic games online at the xbox arcade. Plus the 360 has Earth Defense Force 2017, that really plays like a classic game with a next gen feel. The same will be true when Monster Madness comes out next month. There are a lot of new games comming out that sport flashy graphics with old school gameplay. Edited April 15, 2007 by ManShowBoy
jboypacman #7 Posted April 15, 2007 I must be really old then because my newest game systems are a Sega Genesis and a Turbografx-16. Anyway am sticking to the classics and old-school games too.
mimo #8 Posted April 15, 2007 (edited) My newest game system is a GP2X, which is now playing Atari 2600, 7800, 8 bit and lynx games also some MAME stuff, but only the really old games like Sinistar, Tempest, Pac-man, Galaxians etc I have got a PS2, but apart from BUZZ it never gets used. Dont want a PS3 and if I need a Wii I'll go to the toilet Edited April 15, 2007 by mimo
Ross PK #9 Posted April 16, 2007 (edited) I'm not really interested in the next gen systems either. Sure, they have awsome graphics, but that doesn't seem enough to justify spending £200 or £400 on one, and there isn't really any games that I know of that makes me think I'd really love to play that. I've already got 4 systems and plenty of games (a lot of them I've not even completed 100%), and there's plenty of games for the PS2 that I don't have which I'd really enjoy. Then there's the fact that Sony always make shoddy goods and I've had so many problems with PS2's, and the PS3 may flop anyway (if it hasn't done already), then there's the 360 which commonly suffers from faults, and then there's the Wii which just doesn't appeal to me at all and doesn't really have next gen graphics anyway. So really, all in all I just don't have any motivation to buy a next gen system. Edited April 16, 2007 by Ross PK
Atari5200 #10 Posted April 16, 2007 i have a 360 and love it. I am personally boycotting the current generation of Nintendo so I'll never own a Wii or another DS, and i'll probably get a ps3 towards the end of the consoles life just to own one, but the 360 more than gets the job done for me. Great system.
cyberfluxor #11 Posted April 16, 2007 I've played the Wii for a few hours and had no problems at all, it was actually quite fluid. Maybe it's because I don't own one that I don't know of flaws but I have no plans on buying one anytime soon. Same goes with the PS3 and Xbox360, mainly due to prices. I'm a huge 90's gamer and for the far cheaper prices it's well worth it! The newest game systems I own are PS2, GC, DS and DC, all of which are great and have their gems. The most expensive to buy games for being the DS that's enough and getting another newer system would just run my funds dry faster instead of picking up bundles of older games. Regarding the Wii, it's classic bright spot is the Virtual Console. While it's presently about 60% dross and 40% overpriced but worthwhile stuff, it's still worth checking out. It's not worth buying the console for, but you should keep it in mind. On the X360, retro-style goodness with modern visuals is as simple to find as connecting to XBox Live Arcade. I used to rail against pay downloads, but Live Arcade has made me do a 180. There's tons of goodness in there, from arcade classics to new games like Geometry Wars Evolved, Heavy Weapon, Jetpak Refueled, and others. Plus, the disc games for the X360 are much more traditional. So, I'd definitely say it's worth it. The PS3 is a bit young, but I think it will follow a similar path to the 360. Lord Helmet #13 Posted April 16, 2007 The 360 is a great system. Alot of classics to be had for cheap. Alot of great new games as well, thogh a few too many FPS for my taste. Easily my favorite system of the new gen. The Wii takes some getting used to, but I would hardly classify waving the remote as acting "like a fool." Its just a new gameplay interface that some people have a hard time wrapping their brains around. I personally find it very fun. Too bad most of the games don't appeal to me. I have a feeling that the Wii will be my #2 system for the current gen. And as for the Wii being tiresome...if you get tired from waving the remote....you should really think about getting some exercise

shadow460 #15 Posted April 17, 2007 My next system will probably be a PSP. I've thought about buying a Wii this summer, but I'm not entirely sure yet. Until then, there are plenty of classic games out there to be had.
PressureCooker2600 #16 Posted April 18, 2007 I play the Wii my mom bought all the friggin time. She bought it cause she thought it was "neat". She doesn't ever play it....just sits and watches everyone else play Bowling or something. It really is a great game system. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Nintendo/Atari fanboy either. The system has charm AND potential to be the overall winner in the current console wars.
Epicenter #17 Posted April 18, 2007 My newest home console is the Dreamcast and I expect it to stay that way for a long time. The Wii has some nice games, most of which don't require arm flailing, but there isn't really a killer app I'm interested in yet. The DC has been my 'modern' console of choice for its massive collection of shooters, but the machines that get the most use of mine are the FC, MegaDrive and the SFC. Also my Nintendo DS gets a lot of use. I don't expect to get a PSP, XB360 or PS3 anytime in the future as they aren't very good hardware, and the lineup of games is very unappealing. Colecovision #21 Posted April 18, 2007 I always buy at least one console every generation but I think it's getting too expensive. It's time for me to quit. This is very sad but I think gaming is getting nowhere this generation. Wii is priced well but where are the good games? Everything else is not worth playing. Another FPS? Great. The last game I really liked is Resident Evil 4. I can't find games I like anymore.

Most of these games I can play already on my DS or my Gamecube. Of course it's still better than buying a $600 console for playing FPS. I'm just not interested for now. Uzumaki #24 Posted April 20, 2007 If you didn't like the Wii remote controller, then you should avoid NES as well. They have the Power Glove (nearly identical to Wii remote in function) and the U-Force.
Atarifever #25 Posted April 20, 2007 (edited) Well, I'm not boycotting the new generation specifically because I like the old one so much. I'm playing Bonk and Soldier Blade right now on the Wii VC. I'm also playing Wiiplay, which I initially thought was weak, but have now discovered is pretty deep if you chase the medals (is it even possible to get gold in air hockey and ping pong?), in the same way that many 2600 titles are uprisingly deep. I keep looking at the 360, which I unfortunately don't have, as the system I would have killed for in the mid 80s. Imagine, games like Galaga, Street Fighter 2, and Contra having early perfect arcade ports on a system that actually gives you rewards for doing good (kind of like those ticket machines in arcades). Then, add on a leader board where your score is broadcast to the entire planet. Now spice up many of the games with special modes. Now add in some games that weren't in arcades, but have that sensibility. Now only charge a few bucks a pop for the games. As a classic game player, I don't know that any other system in history has had so much to reccomend it. Edited April 20, 2007 by Atarifever
