Northern and Southern Explorer: The Atari 2600

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about this and wondering how far up North has an Atari 2600 gone. There are units in many parts of Canada as well as Holland, but for far has an Atari 2600 gone up north? Is there one, or has there been one at the North Pole research station?

And how far down south has the Atari 2600 gone?

Uhm, Holland isn't very "north" at all.

Try e.g. Sweden or Scotland, maybe even Iceland.

It would be cool if someone took one up to the space station.I'm just afraid that the RF interference might make the station crash.Oh well, the astronauts would be highly entertained on the way down.

From what I have seen for online mentions of Atari 2600 with areas in Canada, the furthest I have come across is Yellowknife, NWT at Latitude:, 62° 30', which seems to be the most Northern point so far.

The lowest latitude that an Atari 2600 has been played is:

Argentina(Not sure what cities had Atari 2600 or clone of the Atari 2600.)

Not sure about 2600 consoles. As far as 2600 carts, the northernmost Globetrotter has visited so far is in Ylinen, Finland which is a bit north of the coordinates for Tampere: Latitude: 61° 29′ 53″ N 61.498056° , Longitude: 23° 45′ 39″ E 23.760833° This was with AA member manu_pkp, but I don't recall if he owns a 2600.

Early summer of 2006, I had contacted a serviceman in the US military stationed in Thule, Greenland. He was glad to help but unfortunately, I had waited a bit too long as he was about 2 weeks away from being transfered to a warmer climate. :(

I have actually sold a system & games as high as ANCHORAGE, and as low as CHILE but I will work on higher & lower points. Everyone around the world deserves to play atari.

Do you remember what you sent to these destinations?

There are quite a few military bases in very Northern places in order for contries to retain sovereignty over a certain area.

Nothing especially sexy just an ATARI 2600 system 36 plain Jane games & a flashback 2 that I sell for $99.99 - $129.99 + shipping :D ( SHAMELESS PLUG ).

It didn't get there as quick as Santa delivers, I think fed ex needs some magic reindeer ( their delivery times are starting to slip )

The Geographic North Pole defines latitude 90° North, as well as the direction of True North. At the North Pole all directions point south.

North Pole, Alaska 64° 45? 4? N Exact:64.751111°--The destination of igg1na's Atari 2600 and Flashback II Unit.

This seems to be the most northern point so far that an Atari 2600 exists and has been played.

Has anyone sent any Atari stuff to Greenland or Russia?
