Flojomojo #1 Posted April 26, 2007 OK, maybe everyone knew this already, but I did not. This old GameBoy Color game was a favorite ROM of mine in emulation, but I never bothered with the original cartridge since I thought it would be a pain to find. Little did I know it's dirt-common and cheap, too! Gotta love rebranded classics.
Video #2 Posted April 26, 2007 Oh YEAH. I LOVE Elevator Action, and haveing Dexter tacked to it wouldn't be a bad thing. Is this similar to the DMG version of Elevator action, with new sprites and color? Or is it just Elevator action...ie, and more or less it's own game with major props to this game? Maybe I'll just DL an Rom for it and see. Yeah, I got EA for DMG, and that game is friggin HARD, I mean, me and my friend got pretty awesome on the NES version of the game, but neither of us can get past about level 4 or so of the DMG version (heck, we may not be able to on the NES version either, but eh...been to long and my NES is packed away) Anyhow, thanks for pointing this out, I'll see about picking up a copy sometime. Flojomojo #3 Posted April 27, 2007 If DMG = the GameBoy version, this is a little bit enhanced over that. More weapons, different music, intermission screens. It's like a cruder version of the GameBoy Advance's "Elevator Action Old and New" (Japan only, of course).
Video #4 Posted April 27, 2007 Yeah, the original Brick Gameboy, which some people called DMG (cause that was actually on the screen surround, I believe) Sweet, I'll definately see about getting one of these then. And yeah, the 'Cartoon Network' games were all pretty common, I don't know if there was just an arseload of them made, or if people just stayed away initially, but yeah, there pretty easy to pick up. JB #5 Posted April 28, 2007 Yeah, the original Brick Gameboy, which some people called DMG (cause that was actually on the screen surround, I believe) It was the model code. The GameBoy was DMG-01, the games were all DMG-XX-USA(assuming US version). Presumably, DMG comes from "Dot-Matrix Game." It's sorta like how the Gamecube code is DOL, even though the name Dolphin was abandoned. Except Dot-Matrix Game isn't near as imaginative. The screen surround said "dot matrix with stereo sound" along the top, for the record. I just dug my old GameBoy out and checked.
BrianC #6 Posted April 28, 2007 (edited) If DMG = the GameBoy version, this is a little bit enhanced over that. More weapons, different music, intermission screens. It's like a cruder version of the GameBoy Advance's "Elevator Action Old and New" (Japan only, of course). The B/W GB version of Elevator Action also had different weapons not in the original arcade like the shotgun, machine gun, and grenade, though. It has new obstacles like alarm systems and robots too. It doesn't have everything Elevator Action EX has, but it's still an updated version of the original. Elevator Action EX is an updated version of the GB b/w update. From what I tried of Elevator Action EX, it seemed to have the same weapons from the b/w GB one. I didn't notice any new weapons, though I haven't played past the second stage. It has three characters to choose from, unlike the GB b/w Elevator Action. The three characters have been changed to Dexters (Which sadly means no female character like the EU/JP Elevator Action EX) for the US Dexter version of Elevator Action EX, though they still play the same, despite the fast one with low life and the heavy one with a high amount of life being switched to different places on the character select screen. BTW, the code for backwards compatible GBC games (the black ones) was also DMG and there is no gray cart GB b/w 720 degrees. The other Cartoon Network/HB/WB/DC Comics versions of Taito games BAM published were Sgt Rock on the Front Line (based on Front Line: The Next Mission and the least altered of the games. Uses the DC Comics license for Sgt. Rock) and Yogi Bear's Great Balloon Blast (based on the GBC Pop 'n Pop and the most altered, since it actually has less characters than the original GBC version). Oddly enough, all of the altered CN/DC versions of the games still have the same music and sound effects as their JP/EU counterparts.
