Three XBLA Titles This Week (Centipede, Millipede & Catan)

Recommended Posts

Hmmm, Centipede and Millipede are a package deal though. Might be worth the 400 pts if I didn't suck at those games so much.

Well it's easy to suck at them without a trackball. That's how the games were meant to be played and that's how they feel best (and makes them fun to play too).

Granted, with this offering they may have taken that into consideration and like the ports of old where they would be programmed with that limitation in mind... but I still have my reservations. Guess I'll have to download the trial and see :P

Catan won't be a port of the version Capcom did fo N-Gage, will it? The N-Gage one looks really nice, and it's a shame they didn't get more credit for it because it was an N-Gage game.

The art was from that guy who did Maximo.

I couldn't download Catan for some reason. Is it one of those "Live Gold members" get it a week early deals?

Centipede/Millipede is pretty cool. The Stainless Games guys (Crystal Quest - Yay! and Novadrome! - meh) tweaked it for "Evolved Mode." The games have been given a lot of pixel-shatter effects a la Defender 2000. Don't worry, the originals are still in there and they play reasonably well considering the difference in controls.

Catan didn't have a demo for some reason, so I just bought it. The text is hard to read, and it was really late, so I didn't get into it enough to understand how to play, but the word of mouth on the box version was so good I figured it was worth a 10-spot.

According to Xbox.com, you can play 2 - 4 people online. Only one player off-line though. :(

The game involves you managing a hand of cards that are best kept secret. There's really no practical way for it to be played locally with multiple players, much like Uno.

...

Unless there were independent displays on everyone's controller ... VMU 360, where are you?
