Rik #1 Posted May 1, 2007 I just got thinking, the 2600 RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULES!!!!!!!!WHY?CUS,Its,as far as i know, its the only console that was built like a tank,to last!,this thing was phenomally well built, especially the heavy sixer, and something that ATARI built PROPERLY from the start, unlike some others i wont mention, and in this day and age, owning something that hasnt fallen apart a month after buying it like todays CRAP,makes the 2600 a real treasure,im a fan of well built product, and i really doubt those woo's,or wii's or whatever the heck they're called, and all the other fancy modern consoles will still be in one piece and working in the next 30+ years? The 2600 is king for alot of other reasons, but these are the main ones for me. keilbaca #2 Posted May 1, 2007 *blinks* Longest sentence ever. Anyways, yes I agree, its built like a tank, and there were very, very few duds. Not to mention fun to mod XD
Scumdogg #3 Posted May 1, 2007 I'm actually a little scared to disagree. It seems to me that most systems built up through the 16-bit era (ie, everything before discs and moving parts), are pretty well immortal. But yeah, playing on 30 year old hardware that shows absolutely no signs of deterioration is a treat, i can agree with that.
ATARIPITBULL #4 Posted May 1, 2007 I agree rik, you just can't beat the 2600.
classicgamingguy #5 Posted May 1, 2007 Agreed. This system is alot tougher than I initially thought. I never expected the 2600 to be around today. The ones that I have seem as viable as they were 20 years ago. You have to give Atari credit for making such a well-designed system. Steve
The MilkMan #6 Posted May 1, 2007 I think we'll easily get another 30 out of 'em!
tcv #7 Posted May 1, 2007 Suuure! You say this on a Atari forum, but go and put this on an Intellivision forum or a Genesis forum or a Astrocade forum.
Rik #8 Posted May 1, 2007 Suuure! You say this on a Atari forum, but go and put this on an Intellivision forum or a Genesis forum or a Astrocade forum. Exactly, thats why theres different sections, all systems have their weaknesses and strengths, and of course i say this in the 2600 forum, this is for the 2600 fans. jboypacman #10 Posted May 2, 2007 Am down with King! The Atari 2600 rules. My all time favorite game system.
sandmountainslim #11 Posted May 2, 2007 Dont forget the games! Has there not been new VCS games (third party and homebrew included) come out for almost every year since 1977? Who else can say that? WP
Wickeycolumbus #12 Posted May 2, 2007 good system, not as good as the wii tho
Crazy Climber #13 Posted May 2, 2007 My original Atari 2600 killed on me in 1988. Thats still a good 11 year run and it got a LOT of play and I'm sure was very abused, hey I was a kid I didn't know any better. I bet it would have been an easy fix, we didn't know any better though so my dad put it in the "free" box at one of our garage sales
Rik #14 Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) Yes,and of course the GAMES!!!!!!,the 2600 games are in my opinion the MOST FUN of all classic systems, the games especially by ACTIVISION and ,IMAGIC, and others ,are a GODSEND for the 2600. Other systems may have better graphics,in others opinions, but i still find myself playing my 2600 %90 of the time.I cant put my finger on it exactly, there's just something MAGICAL about the 2600,and to be frank,i actually like the 2600 graphics better than any other system, sounds corny, but thats how i fell about it Edited May 2, 2007 by Rik
Rik #15 Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) good system, not as good as the wii tho Thats all a matter of taste, and what you want in video games. :)Anyway, glad you realise its a good system though! Edited May 2, 2007 by Rik
+SpiceWare #16 Posted May 2, 2007 The VCS proves you only need one button and a joystick for some serious fun. Or even 1 button and a knob
supercat #17 Posted May 2, 2007 Has there not been new VCS games (third party and homebrew included) come out for almost every year since 1977? There was a significant haitus, actually. Still, I think the 2600 has probably had one or more games released for it in more different years than any other system other than the PC ever will. Gamemoose #18 Posted May 2, 2007 Of course it's king, where else does a real hip joystick control the scene? Where Solaris is hot and Midnight Magic's mean? (Sorry, couldn't help it. That Atari rap popped in my head after I read this thread)
codyr783 #19 Posted May 2, 2007 Theres no doubt about it.For some reason people of todays generation think of the Atari 2600 as "obsolete."I disagree.I find myself playing a few hours of Atari 2600 then my PS2.I just noticed that my PS2 is gathering some dust. homerwannabee #20 Posted May 2, 2007 The joystick was definetly the coolest for me. The major bummer that I remember about Nintendo is when I first saw that wussy joystick.
