panamajoe #1 Posted May 3, 2007 i recently bought QWAK for the GBA, a homebrew that is sold directly by its author... and it´s great! i highly recommend getting a copy... plays like a mixture of "Rainbow Islands" and "Bubble Bobble" http://www.qwak.co.uk/
jaybird3rd #2 Posted May 3, 2007 I'd also recommend the latest episode of Retro Gaming Radio, which features an interview with Jamie Woodhouse (the developer of QWAK).
Mayhem #3 Posted May 3, 2007 And it'll be getting a good write-up in a near-future issue of Retro Gamer as well...
Video #4 Posted May 4, 2007 Awesome, I so want that, and at 15L, that comes up to about the price of a standard GBA game, new. What it cost you total including shipping? Or do you live in the UK and not deal with shipping? Did it have a box, dox? Etc? Sounds cool, and I'd be interested in picking it up if shipping doesn't kill it
Crazy Climber #5 Posted May 4, 2007 Shipping was free Just put my order in, looks really cool. Didn't see a pic of a box, I would assume it comes with at least a manual but I'm not sure.

Mayhem #7 Posted May 4, 2007 Box is "free" to download from the site, print out and make your own
MacbthPSW #8 Posted May 7, 2007 I just listened to the interview (it was good, but I wish the interviewee got more time to talk), and then ordered a copy of the game. Looking forward to it! So, anyone have any idea how to go about getting hundreds (or even dozens) of copies of a homebrew GBA game made?
Bratwurst #9 Posted May 10, 2007 I have made up some custom labels for my QWAK cartridge, and am offering the rest up for sale. Basically the cost of shipping and paypal fee: 1.00 USD a piece if you are in the USA. I don't have many, (about 5 left) and they were very time consuming to make, so don't expect any more to show up. When they're gone they're gone. Each is full color, super fine printing quality with a shiny, waterproof plastic coating using acid-free materials for longevity. They're extremely nice! The flash from the camera has washed out some of the color in the pictures so they're even more vibrant in person. If you want one PM me, paypal please. PressureCooker2600 #10 Posted May 10, 2007 great labels brat.....those are better than the one it comes with
Crazy Climber #11 Posted May 11, 2007 Only a dollar? Sure why not, PM sent I'm still waiting on mine to show up though, does it not come with a label?
FABombjoy #12 Posted May 11, 2007 And if anybody still needs a copy of the game, I have 2 extras, and I printed & assembled boxes from the author's website (they don't ship with boxes).
Bill Brasky #13 Posted May 11, 2007 Is the GBA a totally open system or did someone break the encryption key? I would think Nintendo would want to lock everyone out.
Video #14 Posted May 11, 2007 Is the GBA a totally open system or did someone break the encryption key? I would think Nintendo would want to lock everyone out. It's got some kind of encryption, I seem to recall some older third party tech, haveing to use the Link port to start the program since the cart port wouldn't work. But it was a pretty easy encryption to beat apparently, cause other than a few music players and cameras, nothing used anything but a cart port. Flojomojo #15 Posted May 18, 2007 Is the GBA a totally open system or did someone break the encryption key? I would think Nintendo would want to lock everyone out. Visit http://gbadev.org/ -- there are scads of homebrew GBA games, but it's rare for someone to go out on their own to manufacture cartridges without Nintendo's consent. Everything on that page requires a flash cartridge in order to play on the real hardware. Qwak could well be a collector's item if the guy gets shut down for legal reasons, but there's nothing stopping the pirate scene from distributing the ROM so people can run it themselves on flash cards. Rockin' Kat #16 Posted May 19, 2007 I got my replacement qwak label from bratwurst yesterday.. Its NICE! Much better than the one the game comes with already.
