godzillajoe #1 Posted May 3, 2007 I just got a Missile Command TB cart and tried it out with my Trakball in that mode. Nothing. Cursor just kinda spazzes in place. Putting it in Joystick mode and playing other games seems to work fine. Anyone know what the problem here might be? And can it be fixed?

Thomas Jentzsch #4 Posted May 3, 2007 Both the Wico and the Atari Which Atari? CX 22 or CX 80? AFAIK the Wico only works in joystick mode.
godzillajoe #5 Posted May 3, 2007 CX22 I had no idea there were different versions
Thomas Jentzsch #6 Posted May 3, 2007 CX22 I had no idea there were different versions Too make it even more complicated, some TrakBalls work different from others with the same name. Anyway, if you got yours for Al, he will be able to replace it. Else you need a CX 80 TrakBall (or an Atari ST mouse).
Deteacher #7 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) I didn't even know there were different versions of Missile Command. Can someone post pics of the label variations? is the TB version a hack? I'm very curious about this. I had the same issue with my CX-22, trying to play Missile Command. The exact same symptoms. Again, only curious about the labels. EDIT: Nevermind! I found the answer. It is a hack. I guess I should have looked before I posted. D'oh! Sorry about that. I might have to check that out, though. Pretty cool! Thomas Jentzsch #8 Posted May 5, 2007 is the TB version a hack? Yup, ask Al about it. I had the same issue with my CX-22, trying to play Missile Command. The exact same symptoms. Maybe the same symptoms, but definitely different reasons.
darthkur #9 Posted May 17, 2007 Hate to dredge up an old thread but there seemed to be no answer to the original posters question. Now, unfortunately, I find myself in the same situation. I recently acquired the black colored Atari trackball. It works fine in joystick mode but when switched to TB the character instantly moves to the right and will not move back. It will go up and down a little and slightly to the left but can not overcome the rightwards movement. This is while playing Centipede. While trying Missile Command in the TB position the cursor just moves in random directions but, again, works in JS mode. I'm using it with an 800. I haven't tried it out on the 2600 yet. Has anyone figured out a reason for these malfunctions?
Thomas Jentzsch #10 Posted May 17, 2007 Are the games you are trying programmed for using the TB?
godzillajoe #11 Posted May 17, 2007 I am trying to use it with the trakball missile command hack. in fact a got a second cart which this time supposedly has the CX22 version to match my trakball and that doesn't work either. The cursor just kinda jumps around a bit when I spin the ball All other games work with it in joystick mode. Is it possible that the controller is broken in trakball mode but works in joystick mode or the cart is still the wrong version or i really have a cx80 or whatever despite it being labeled a cx22 Does anyone have BOTH trakballs? I can mail you the cart to try with both of them to narrow it down.
Thomas Jentzsch #12 Posted May 17, 2007 If your trakball isn't broken, then one of the two versions should have worked. So I suppose it is the controller.
godzillajoe #13 Posted May 17, 2007 That's the question though, can one mode be broken and one work?

+Mitch #17 Posted May 17, 2007 Does trackball mode work in Decathlon on your trackball? Mitch What's so special about Decathlon, it supports Trakball mode? Yes, somewhat unintentionally but it does. Great for getting high scores too. Mitch
