mert #1 Posted May 4, 2007 Picked up a Watara Supervision today at the flea market and it doesn't work. No power supply came with it. Put batteries in and it won't power up. Anyone know how to work on them?
shadow460 #2 Posted May 5, 2007 I've had one, but I never had to fix it. Does your flex in the middle? If so, check the wiring in there to see if it's broken. Other than that, I'd say clean up the battery contacts. Mine ran on 6 volts, same as my Game Boy Brick, but I think the plug was different. If the adapter works but the batteries don't, you've got bad contacts and that's easy to fix. If it's the other way 'round, the flea market vendor sold you a bad unit and if it were me, I'd consider feeding it to them. (not really, but the unit may be cooked as it is.) mert #3 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) It flexes in the middle. Contacts didn't seem too bad but I really didn't pay that much attention to them when I put the batteries in. I'll try the cleaning before taking it apart. Although I can tell this difference between a connected wire and a disconnected wire I really don't know anything about what's in them. Scared I'll mess something up. It would be so sweet if a cleaning is all it needs. I got for $8 so if it doesn't work I'll just hold on to it. Maybe find someone to check it out and hope it's not done for good. Thanks! Edited May 5, 2007 by mert
Trooper #4 Posted May 5, 2007 It's probably just a wiring problem as was stated above so you should have no problems getting it up and running again. If it's not the screen itself that's been fried but you should be able to hear some sound if that was the case. Did you get any games with it? I haven't had mine out in years (it really is more or less a third rate Game Boy ) so I can't remember if a game needs to be inserted in order to get it to start. I can check this when I get home in a couple of days if you'd like? /T
mert #5 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) I got 3 games with it. Battery contacts look fine. I opened it up but have no clue what I'm looking at. To me it looks like stuff is missing but what do I know. Here's some pics. Sorry bout the poor picture quality. Edited May 5, 2007 by mert
shadow460 #6 Posted May 5, 2007 Man, I wish I knew how these things broke, but I don't. I can't see what would be causing trouble there. The only thing I can think of is to be sure that flex ribbon is on good shape, but given the Supervision's lack of age, I don't thin that would be wore out yet. I hope one of your games is Pacific Battle. It is a clone of NTVIC's Power Mission for the Game Boy, and they are the forerunners of Real Time Strategy games. Pacific Battle was the game I played almost exclusively out of my entire group of Supervision games. That game alone is probably worth what you paid for the entire set. I also had a Breakout style game, a game called Condor Attack, and a few others.
mert #7 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) I've added a (not very good) picture of the ribbon. It's crimped. The games I got with it are Balloon Fight,Crystball and Tennis Pro. Edited May 5, 2007 by mert
shadow460 #8 Posted May 8, 2007 If the ribbon is crimped, the connectors could be broke. It should be easy (although time consuming) to replace that with wires. IIRC, Crystball was the pack in. I think it's got a purple label and it's a clone of Alleyway. The others don't ring a bell to me.
mert #9 Posted May 8, 2007 Thanks for your help shadow460. Someday I'll try fiddling around with that.
