toymailman #1 Posted May 6, 2007 I just got the CIB Waterworld that has been taunting me on the Atari2600.com website (some cash/some trades). Anyway, this item must have been sold in stores as well as through the Video Club. Mine still has the original shrinkwrap with a price sticker of $23.99 reduced to $9.99 from Kay-Bee toys. That was a great deal for someone!

That was a great deal for someone! Do you think there was anyway that maybe the previous owner took this wrap off one game and put it around this one to protect the box? Congrats on a new rare game to your collection man. You are going after the real rares now i see!
codyr783 #3 Posted May 6, 2007 Are there any glued parts or cuts on the wrap?

Congrats on a new rare game to your collection man. You are going after the real rares now i see! Yeah, I think all I have left are the really rares! I think the last 1% will cost more than my current collection combined, yikes! As for the wrap it looks to be in really great shape. No breaks, tape or glue. Crazy Climber #5 Posted May 6, 2007 Pretty sure this was how that one was sold. I purchased a lot of the other games that were in the same collection as the Waterworld that atari2600.com purchased, he said that the guy he got them from kept all the games in this condition. Just a small slit in the top of the shrink wrap to get the game out and kept everything else in mint condition. Congrats toymailman on purchasing that one by the way, I would have loved it and even debated it a few times. Looks like you beat me to it
video game addict #6 Posted May 6, 2007 The CIB Quadrun I bought was shrinkwrapped with a old price tag as well when I originally purchased it. I've heard that some of the Atari club titles were carried in stores later on.
Crazy Climber #7 Posted May 8, 2007 Are you going to get this one next? https://www.atari2600.com/item--Crazy-Climb...26GAM1776A.html
toymailman #8 Posted May 9, 2007 Are you going to get this one next? https://www.atari2600.com/item--Crazy-Climb...26GAM1776A.html Ha, I wish. It took me a year to build up the courage to buy the CIB Waterworld. I also have a problem with NIB games. I don't have the heart to open them if they are rare. This forces me to find/buy cart and manual to play it.
BONK #9 Posted June 20, 2007 Yea some atari club exclusive left overs, where sold off in stores.
Buyatari #10 Posted June 21, 2007 My buddy growing up was a HUGE swordquest fan and when Waterworld came out his mother bought it for him at the mall for his birthday. Not sure what store but I know it wasn't an exclusive.

I don't have the heart to open them if they are rare. This forces me to find/buy cart and manual to play it. Hey man, save them for a special occasion and then pop em in! I have been saying for years I have plans for a 50th birthday party to open my sealed games. Seriously. Its 17 years away and I will have my list of games I want to play for the first time. Honestly, the media has a finite life anyway. If the carts still work, we'll need some old tech tv's to make them play. I figure my 50th is towards 50 for the games (some more like 40) but that will still be plenty old to be "new". I collect sealed when I can. Congrats on that one man. Mayhem UK and I went round a few years back at CGE for one at the auction...I think somebody else got it though in the end C
Mayhem #12 Posted June 21, 2007 Ah, it was you? Yeah I remember that... it was 2004 I think. It only went for about $350 I think in the end... I stopped bidding cos I thought that was too much, when I later found out the going price then was about $500. Still, I made up for it by securing a sealed copy last year for under $300 (though the box is a bit warped from the pressure)...
opeygon #13 Posted June 21, 2007 Below is an interesting related thread. Not sure why it didn't come up in the similar topics except maybe that it's closed now. I'd hate to think of what it would be like if there was only one waterworld left on the entire earth! I guess most collectors would kill each other off pretty early if that happend. Then the rest of us could actually play some of their games! Boy, think of what an armegeddeon would do to the rarity of most games. WOW! Pac Man would be worth something. Makes me glad I have multiple copies. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...101292&st=0 And after reading the thread I linked you to (takes a while cause it's like three pages, but well worth the time) re-read this one and see if you notice any strange quotes BTW, no need to thank me for bringing up old shit. Thats what I do best.
Torr #14 Posted June 22, 2007 Unless you're a real collector, don't be afraid to break the seal on that baby! While the first 2 Swordquests were just random luck in finding clues there IS a method to the madness in Waterworld; It took me a while to piece it all together but in the end, I was able to solve it (and identify what most items did to help you on your way) and it was VERY gratifying. Especially so after being frustrated to no end with the others! Still no Adventure tho...
