X-Box Controllers

Recommended Posts

Ok, so we all know that the original Box controllers were crap, but OMG, the 360 ones are THE worst controllers I think I've ever used in my entire LIFE. I've been trying (and trust me, trying is the major operative word here) to play SF2 HF and Ultimate MK3 online for the last few days. Seriously, you can't use the control pad for anything at all, as if you so much as try and push forward, the damned thing makes you jump, and you can't use the stick, because it puts your thumb in an awkard position to your other hand. Seriously, even trying to do a friggin' simple move like Stryker's Baton Throw (F-F-HK) is an absolute joke, as instead of actually doing the move, all you do is jump all the time. I never thought I'd find myself pining for the days of the Playstation controllers, but this is just an exercise in frustration! Anybody up for a class action lawsuit or something? :x :x :x

They're great controllers actually, as long as you don't need a good d-pad. Wireless digital controllers like the Hori GameCube controller would be really nice for the 360.

The 360 controllers are awesome for 360 games, the games you listed are old arcade games and benefit from an arcade stick to feel right. Unfortunately the only one available is the HORI DOA 4 controller:

Which is kind of expensive.

I haven't used the controller myself but it sounds more suited to the games you are trying to play.

Or you might just suck. :P I know folks that have 100% acheievements on the games you listed (Breakpack I'm looking at you) and I'm pretty sure they just use standard controllers.

I wish someone would release a decent arcade stick for the 360. One with two joysticks for games like Robotron. With all the classic games on Live I'm suprised no one has released a good one yet.

Actually, I'd be perfectly satisfied with just a controller that has a decent digital pad. Having one that has 6 face buttons is likely way too much to ask for, but seriously, just a decent d-pad is all I'm after.

Hmmmm...I don't remember ever sucking at SF2. In fact, at one point, I was seriously considering going to the world championships. I used to win LOTS of money on that game. Maybe I've just gotten older and my reflexes have crapped out on me.

And yeah, the controller is ok for most of the actual 360 games, but I still prefer the Playstation controller. I can at least reliably do quarter-circle and dragon-punch motions with those. (Hell, I even won a KOF '98 tournament last year with a PS controller, and that game has some FUNKY move inputs).

I'm afraid you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that the D-pad is now an afterthought on controllers now, used for little more than issuing commands to troops etc.

That said, I'm sure there are 3rd party controllers with better D-pads. I've always liked Logitech's stuff. Have a look around.

I second that. The 360 controllers are sublime except for that thing that calls itself a D-Pad.
