Forza 2 Demo On Marketplace!

Recommended Posts

Forza 2 Demo went up on the marketplace about 2 hours ago. Features 1 track - Mugello Short, and 24 cars from 3 different classes. The demo is approx 700MB, took me about 20 mins to download.

Very impressed with the AI, physics, 60fps, car models etc. Just a shame the track provided isn't particuarly exciting. Time to start counting down the days till the full release!

I played it a bit yesterday. I didn't think much of the AI (is there even AI???) since one of the other cars crashed into me when I spun out, t-boning me, and continuing to try to drive through me until it had pushed me out of it's way and then continuing on. I assumed from this that the cars just ran on set tracks like they do in Gran Turismo.

BUT the graphics look very nice etc. But from what I have seen thus far I'll just either keep playing Forza on the original XBox and GT4 on the PS2.

Awesome graphics, I suck at this type of racing game tho.

I think I did 180's about 5 times, and hit the wall about 5 times. Needless to say I came in dead last.

Probably not a game I'll purchase.

Thanks for the heads up, I liked the first one, this one should rock. Being able to try out new games by downloading demos is the best thing the 360 has to offer. With this out and the Halo 3 beta this week, it is good times for 360 owners.

Man this game looks nice. I suck at "realistic" driving games though. I had a hard time keeping my car on the track

I enjoy the PGR and RR games much more. I'll probably pick this up used when it gets down to $20 or so.

The online is what I'm really looking forward to. Forza 1 had a great community, and I used to have some good fun & close races.

i didn't like this game that much, i guess i'm too used to the EA Need for Speed games, i found myself 99% of the time just running the track backwards wrecking into other cars, the demo was just, well, boring.

Best buy is offering a bonus car with a preorder. Just a matter of time before you will need to pre-order a game to get all the achievements.

Messed with the demo today in full blast almost HDTV (1080i on component cables). Pretty nice! Physics, car models, etc. Love the sound, full surround (watch it in playback mode).

Not sure if the AI runs in set tracks. After getting bored of spinning out I begun my quest to create as many crashes as possible. At one point my vehicle was in the middle of the road waiting to be sideswiped. The AI vehicles went around me. So I had to resort to moving myself into their path.

The opening demo song sounded awful familar as well. Yup sounds like a remix of "Lights Out" by P.O.D.

I agree though, boring demo race track.

As usual the IGN reviewer finds something to whine about.

Turn 10 devoted itself to realism from top to bottom. That's admirable, but it does create some limitations. In trying to shove every last physics variable under Forza 2's hood (and pumping the framerate to 60fps), sacrifices had to be made. Races take place only during the day and under perfect weather conditions. The horizon is marred by a tremendous amount of jaggies as aliasing issues persist in pretty much every area of Forza 2. Cars, which are the showcase of the series, have some distracting jagged edges. The real-time reflections sometimes stutter across hoods and windows. With so much focus on accurate models, damage, and a fast framerate, Forza 2 couldn't afford to render a dashboard camera, easily the most immersive view possible in a racing title.
Come on guys. What a bunch of whiners.

Then they go and whine about the graphics..

Don't get me wrong, I'll take a racer at 60fps and full damage modeling over a clunky racer with bad physics. But there's no denying that racing games are largely judged on the visuals. People expect to be blown away by the look of the cars and the beautiful tracks. On that level, Forza 2 disappoints. It can't all be blamed on the physics and framerate. The art style for Forza 2 is bland and the colors in the realistic tracks are drab. Turn 10 dropped the ball artistically, both in the tracks and in the menus. Every ounce of inspiration and passion seems to have been infused in the cars, but a racing game is about more than just the vehicles you drive.
Phhfffft. After reading the review I think those guys are more into arcade racers.

Also had a chance last weekend to try out the Gran Turismo HD demo. I definetly think it looks better. Didn't get much time to mess with it (yet another boring track). But I did race thru with a few cars. Unfortunately GT doesn't come out till next year right?
