My DS was making a new "power-up" noise - but only on my birthday

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Pokemon Pearl like an obsessed bastard for 3 weeks and playing almost nothing else save a little Zelda in the mornings.

Anyway, the amount of time I've been playing my DS had me thinking I broke it yesterday morning when I turned it on.

Instead of the usual, pulsing ding noice it makes when you turn it on, it was making more of a ringing chime that was instantly recognisable as quite different. So yeah, I though maybe the speakers were going or something even though the game sounds were fine.

When I turned it on today to play Pokemon (again) the noise was back to normal. Being that yesterday was my birthday, do you think it had something to do with that? Your birthday is saved in the settings isn't it? I can't think of any other reason..

Yeah, it was probably some kind of reminder alarm.

It definitely changes the sound effect you hear on boot-up. And what's more, your birthday will enhance certain Nintendo DS games. For instance, it's the only time you can buy birthday cake from the shop owner in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. The cake heals your character completely and is essential to your success in completing the hidden dungeon near the beginning of the game.

You also get a Birthday Cake in Animal Crossing as well. I haven't found any other way to get the cake in the game aside from this. I can't remember if one of my townies made me the cake and gave it to me...or if it was a present in the mail.jch
