Help me identify this arcade game.

Recommended Posts

I only have a vague memory of this game, and would like help identifying it.

The object was to cut down trees in a field. You played the role of a guy with an axe, and you had a boss who watched over you and smoked a cigar, and weird bird type things would run from the sides of the screen to try to kill you. There wasn't a "chop" button, instead you had to stand next to the tree and move the joystick toward the tree to chop. The joystick could only move 2 ways -- left and right.

I vaguely remember playing it when I was young and also played it at VGXPO but have no idea what it's called or who made it. If anybody knows the name of this arcade game, please do tell!

I still to this day have never actually seen one in person. It would be pretty cool to have a Tapper and Timber and set them up right next to each other.... :ponder:

*starts drawing new game room ideas*

I saw a Tapper machine back in the 80s at a bowling alley around Clarksville, TN, but never a Timber machine. The Tapper machine was a Budweiser, though, so it makes you wonder what it was doing in a bowling alley if it was still the 80s.

Like I said before, I played one when I was younger (around 1995 ish) and I also played one recently at VGXPO in philly (not sure if you're familiar with the convention). I also played a Tapper at the VGXPO. They had a shitton of golden age era arcade machines set up, all set to free play. It was sweet.

So you're telling me that an original dedicated Timber is somewhat rare, huh? That's too bad, because I'd really like to own one.

Timber is one of the games on thoses Midway Arcade Treasures games (Vol.2 i think).Thoses were made for the X-Box,PS2,PSP,and Gamecube i think.

It was a fun game to play if i recall correctly. :)

Aye, that it is. I never played the multiplayer version much, but it would be fun to get into pushing trees on each other. Steve Meyer said in an interview that that was one of the things about the game that made it so much fun.
