AtariGeezer #351 Posted August 30, 2016 Check on the heat riser "wall's" outer rightmost side for a sticker. If it's there, you'll have the rest of the primary serial (DA 75????) although it won't list the final 3-digit number (production week). It's possible that the production week number is stamped on the mainboard, though, as it seems I'd seen it there on some of my 1200XL family. --Tim On the bottom of the circuit board, there is DA 113995 and on the top there is a sticker with DA 143 Rev A. No sticker on heat sink or other areas though...
Gunstar #352 Posted August 30, 2016 Thanks for the prompt response - I assume there's no place where I could get such a part other than taking it from another 1200XL... Too bad, but at least it's not visible on first sight... There's a distinct possibility that you can still get a replacement from Best Electronics. Known as the cartridge side panel, part #CO60096. Phone number 408-243-6950. After 1PM pst.
freetz #353 Posted August 30, 2016 Wow, thanks a lot, that would be awesome! I aksed Bradley (probably too unspecific) about that part of the case, but with the help of a part number, maybe things look better , I'll give it a try!

freetz #355 Posted September 2, 2016 Yes, that's what he told me yesterday... Any chance that one of you fellow 1200er owners has that part as a spare and could thus help make a broken 1200 XL whole again? Cheers, F.

+kheller2 #364 Posted September 26, 2016 Dare I ask where you are obtaining all these units? I haven't seen a 1200xl in the wild in over a decade.
Timothy Kline #365 Posted September 26, 2016 Dare I ask where you are obtaining all these units? I haven't seen a 1200xl in the wild in over a decade. All but two were purchased off eBay. All but 3 had the typical mylar issues, of course. Most of them were purchased in excess of $190 US dollars (ouch!). I had to pass on one that was being offered recently for $199, however, due to some other purchases I had made to flesh out my Atari collection--but looks like someone grabbed it at that BIN price. A 1200XL, fully restored, was eBay-listed by AtariAge's very own Paul Westphal, a couple weeks ago but never sold. He does have 1200XLs for sale via his website, if you'd prefer to avoid the hassles of eBay. --Tim

ijor #369 Posted October 31, 2016 Can some of the 1200XL experts look at a couple of threads at atari-forum. Don't know if it is real or not, interesting or not. But somebody there claims it has some early unit, and possibly some internal Atari disk as well. The relevant threads are: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=30662 http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=30562 I'm attaching the pictures for those without an account there:
+kheller2 #370 Posted November 1, 2016 Looks legit. There is no XL on the label and I believe the plastic doesn't have the same dimples as the XL.
ijor #371 Posted November 1, 2016 But as somebody posted in that thread, there was precisely a 1200 (no XL) prototype: http://www.atarimuseum.com/computers/8bits/1200xl/1200.html

BillC #374 Posted November 6, 2016 Funnily enough I came here to find the monitor socket pinout of my 1200XL so I could make a cable for it since I'm in the UK and don't have an NTSC compatible TV - it's a US machine originally Made in Taiwan 72R DA 02950 163 All stock 1200XLs are NTSC, it was discontinued before other versions were manufactured. Just a cable won't be enough unless you have a monitor that can handle NTSC composite/s-video signals. AA user Dropcheck makes an adapter for PAL video output from a 1200XL: https://www.bitsofthepast.com/?product=gtia-pal-adapter-8001200xl
witchy #375 Posted November 6, 2016 Just a cable won't be enough unless you have a monitor that can handle NTSC composite/s-video signals. Just for yuks I grabbed a 400 power brick and plugged the machine into my 'test' TV....and it works! Auto detected NTSC and ran with it. Only half a dozen keys work though so there's work to be done. Thanks for the adapter link though, something to think about.
