Having a problem with a couple of 7800 games....

Recommended Posts

I own ten 7800 games and all work perfectly but two. The two that are giving me trouble are Asteroids & Xevious. They both fire up fine but it seems that the fire button or something is stuck. I've tried changing controler's and nothing. Even when a controler is NOT plugged in it does the same thing (rapid fire). Does anyone know what the deal is?

Any help out there would be great.

Thanks!

I've been using a old Sega controler, works fine with the other eight games. Are you suggesting that I bust out the original 7800 controler?

You could try using a 2600 joystick, since both Asteroids and Xevious support it.

Use the atari pro line, not sure the cx-40 will work with XEVIOUS,cus you need 2 fire buttons, one for missles and 1 for bombs,if i remember correctly.I'm pretty sure any stick with 2 fire buttons will work,as i know that the pro lines are pretty uncomfortable, but you get used to them,i did anyway.

No, Xevious does work with the CX-40. You don't even need to do anything special, just plug in the joystick and the game will automatically detect it.

and Asteroids is fine with a CX 40 too, pull back on the stick for hyper-death

Yeah but doesn't it fire both lasers and bombs at the same time with the CX-40? Or you have to push the stick foward IIRC? I find that a pain...Asteroids is ok, in fact it's more "2600" like using down as your hyperspace.

A better alternative also if you hate the prolines as I do is the joypads. They've been selling fairly cheap on ebay lately...

Yes.

Should the 2600 Key Pad controler work on the 7800. The bottom three buttons are not working for me when plugged into the 7800.

I have never had any issues with the keypad controllers on any of my 7800s. I assume you tested it on a 2600 as well?

If you don't like the standard proline 7800 controllers, you could get yourself a set of the joypads. You should be able to find new ones on eBay. They're the only controllers I use on the 7800 when a second fire button is required. Otherwise, I use a 2600 controller.
