elviticus #1 Posted May 20, 2007 Well... I've been thinking about getting one of these - so I thought I'd ask you who know - Do I want one of these? It seems like they run about $50 used on ebay... is this worth it? How reliable are they? I wouldn't mind getting one, if it's worthwhile - I really enjoy playing my AES! Thanks for any info. Blur2040 #2 Posted May 20, 2007 I honestly don't think they're worth it... With most Neo games there is no reason to save your game... As for the cards themselves...they're reliable...but may need their batteries replaced...which can be difficult.
Fighter17 #3 Posted May 20, 2007 It's only a good idea to have one to save your high scores on the AES machine, then find a MVS machine that supports the memory card and save your high scores on that. Like Blur said before, it's not worth it.
kevincal #4 Posted May 20, 2007 $50 on eBay...I've seen them go for $20-30 frequently and recently on eBay. Just keep on eye out. I think they are essential since most Neo Geo games have friggen impossible difficulty levels!

kevincal #6 Posted May 20, 2007 I think they save exactly where you left off iirc...
raindog151 #7 Posted May 21, 2007 Do the AES memory cards save levels placement as well? For almost all the games I've played on the AES, you get the opportunity to save and the end of a level or upon game over. In the end everything is game dependant. I own 40 NGCD titles and I only save three things in the RAM. More reasons why the Memory Card is not needed.
elviticus #9 Posted May 23, 2007 Hmmm.... Thanks, this is helpful. Looks like it might be a LITTLE bit useful - I'll look for one cheap.
elviticus #10 Posted May 23, 2007 As for the cards themselves...they're reliable...but may need their batteries replaced...which can be difficult. What kind of batteries do they take? How hard is it to change them? I'm guessing as old as they are, there is a good chance of the batteries not working.
FABombjoy #11 Posted May 23, 2007 The use the 20xx series of batteries - a 2016, 2032, or somewhere in the middle. Of the 8 or so Neo memory cards I've seen over the last year, all of them worked fine. The batteries weren't intended to be serviced, so it's a bit of a procedure to change one. Think heat & razor blades. One other thing the memory card is useful for: If you have a Unibios, it will store your preferred region / mode settings.
