toymailman #4 Posted May 25, 2007 Thanks guys. I have a few questions of my own on the big lot item. First, eBay doesn't seem to be listing the international shipping options. I had choose three when I listed but nothing is coming up. I think this may be discouraging some potential international buyers. I tried to edit the item to see if I could add them, but it didn't let me. Is it because the weight I entered is too big? This lot will be a little over 30 lbs. I weighed it all before listing. Also, I have had a number of questions from potential bidders/buyers asking why the shipping is so much. For this I have been honestly telling them I don't know. I really am not trying to gouge people on shipping. Like I mentioned above I simply entered the weight and added a few bucks for handling to cover bubble wrap, peanuts, etc. The USA options I choose were USPS Priority, UPS Ground, and UPS 3 Day Select. Is there a cheaper option I could use for an auction this size. Any advice would be great, thanks!

If you have bids on your auction already you are unable to change any pricing, description, or shipping terms. Shipping is a tough one right now. i was kind of suprised to see shipping seem so high on that one auction of yours but if u factored everything in with weight and all it may be sadly correct. I just sold a big Atari 5200 lot where i had the shipping charge set to almost $40 i thought that was going to be too much and i wrote in the description that i would refund the overcharge in shipping if there was one. Well when i went to ship i almost ended up jipping myself on shipping. Shipping costs have definitely went up. If you see some of my auctions you will see that i have some high shipping prices but also i state that i will refund if it turns out to be too high! I figure it will save a lot of pesky questions about my shipping charges if i just come right out and explain everything in the auction. Yet i did still have someone message me about my shipping cost on the Atari 5200 lot. I think you may be able to add to your description if you want to just explain you can refund the shipping difference if there is one. This will help save you on your star count also. I hate the new system with the shipping time. Some people expect you to have the items delivered to their door the next day yet they want the cheapest shipping possible. Its crazy! BigO #6 Posted May 25, 2007 I wonder if it would help people be more comfortable with the shipping costs if a seller listed the approximate weight of the shipment and detailed out their handling fees. I occasionally see someone explicitly say that they take a $1.00 or $2.00 or whatever handling charge as part of the shipping costs. I appreciate the full disclosure. I also appreciate the sellers who've been gracious enough to ship via FedEx using my shipper number to save me more than half of the costs when compared to USPS. (I also really appreciate my employer who has great FedEx rates and allows me to take advantage of those rates.)
toymailman #7 Posted May 25, 2007 Thanks for the great advice. I will add in the refund statement on auctions from now on and see if I can do it with this one as well. As I am not trying to make money with high shipping costs I can just state the weight and handling charges in the listing that I am using. This should clear it up for all. But yeah the shipping cost have gone up quite a bit! Especially for transactions going cross country like it would be for us Atarimania75. The zoned rates are big. Also, I know whenever I am listing something that FedEx doesn't come up as an option to select. Why is this? Sometimes they might have the best rate for buyers. Did eBay and FedEx have a spat? BigO #8 Posted May 25, 2007 Also, I know whenever I am listing something that FedEx doesn't come up as an option to select. Why is this? Sometimes they might have the best rate for buyers. Did eBay and FedEx have a spat? I have wondered why FedEx never shows up in eBay. That doesn't even seem like something that eBay should want to control unless they're getting kickbacks from supported carriers. I was surprised to see that even the "street" rates from FedEx Ground were cheaper than the seller's USPS proposal every time I did a comparison. I don't know how much markup there is at the retail FedEx places. If I were a big online seller, I'd look hard at what the cost of maintaining an FedEx account would be. Lower shipping prices than other similar listed items would get my attention.
