I just rolled Atlantis!!!

Unbelievable!!!! Mere days after I roll Yar's Revenge, tonight I roll Atlantis (a game I could not score over 150,000 on until now!)

 

Sadly there is NOTHING. No fanfare, no fireworks, no address to Imagic HQ, NOTHING, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH. Basically the score rolls at 1 million and you start over again. sigh.

 

It took me an hour and a half to beat it (made worse because I had just made a bowl of soup and by the time I got to eat it, it was cold). It takes a long time to get 1 mil, 100 points at a time and the difficulty stops ramping at 100,000.

 

Whew! I need a nap.

nah, I imagine everybody here has already rolled every game out there, but I'm just much more vocal cause to me its a big deal. I'm small potatoes.

Then only 2600 game that I have ever rolled was Yars Revenge, but that was when I was 10 years old and have not done it since.

I think I rolled the Nintendo Game and Watch version of Donkey Kong Jnr when I was a kid, but that's probably it. These days most games let you score over a billion without rolling. Some of my pinball scores have been obscene.

Wow! Way to go! Atlantis is a GREAT game... one I could spend more time with. Maybe I'll give it a shot as well. Don't think I've rolled anything in my life... well... there was that doobie way back in highschool... but I've long since given that up. Can't imagine that'd be a good headline for my students to read - "TEACHER BUSTED!" Ah well - GREAT JOB STAN!!! Tomorrow, I shoot off a 21 bottle rocket salute in your honor - THERE'S YOUR FIREWORKS!

i plugged in Pele's Soccer and scored a goal, so I did get some fireworks, if I had to go elsewhere to get them (cheap Imagic!)

wel, its the thought that counts and clearly you thought about going to a lot of trouble to bring me fireworks, but then copped out and grabbed an existing image. I think that's a good thing???

If I'd done it the hard way it also would have been a couple of days before you saw any fireworks, and it more or less would have lost the point (what, with the 4th being over and all).

 

I might still grab some frames on the weekend. I'm fairly sure I know where all the cables, adapters and devices I need are.

What sucks is that for 90% of the game I was stuck in a boring rhythm with the game getting no harder and me getting no more points for the same amount of work.

Wow!! great for you StanJr!! You did work so hard to get score for many hrs, but to me?? umm....I never got roll over since when I was teenager in 80's while I playing with Atari 2600...

 

One day I will might get roll over score?? will see....

I know, but you've got me started. I'll probably hook up everything this evening and give it a bit of a go. I paid too much for my USB video capture device and I don't use it nearly enough.

 

If only there was a stand-alone video frame grabber that saved to a flash card or something. With an IR remote. Then I could just hook it up to the monitor out of my TV and grab all sorts of interesting stuff.

Nice job, Stan. What's your strategy?

No real strategy at the start, just shoot everything.

 

But once the difficulty starts to plateau, it gets REALLY monotonous. Right after you shoot something (on the top row) IMMEDIATELY squeeze off 2 more shots. 90% of the time one of those shots will hit the next incoming ship (since they go so fast). You have to get into the rhythm of it, but I spent about 75% of my time on this game simply picking them off one by one like this. Occasionally one will sneak by and you'll have to get it on the next pass, then get back into your rhythm, but for the most part once you get in the groove, its easy.

 

For kicks after I flipped it, I just set the joystick down and watched. I scored another 50,000 just by doing nothing, I had SO many rebuilds saved up. Absurd.

UPDATE!

 

I just rolled Mr. Do! There must be something in the water. It only took about 20 mins, since you only have to get 100,000 pts and as expected NOTHING happened. The score rolled over and the game rolled on.

I have an idea, make a list with all game with the highest score you can get till it roll. And maybe if it roll and begin at 0 or if the game end stop, or if there is a special screen.

 

Like:

Atlantis = 1 million = roll

Mr. Do! = 100,000 = roll

and all others too.

Good idea. Here are the only games I have rolled (that I can remember, anyway)

 

Double Dunk = 199 points = game stops-shows designer initials

Casino = $10,000 = game resets (back to $200)

So far this is all I know:

 

Yar's Revenge: 1 million=roll

Defender 1 million=roll

Pitfall II 199,000 PERFECT game ends (12:53 time to completion)

Q*Bert 100,000=roll

Frogger 10,000=roll

Atlantis 1 million=roll

Fathom all 7 mermaids game ends unlocks easter egg (19,192 best score)

Mr. Do! 100,000= roll

Entombed 100 (on the time clock)=roll

 

 

But I'll keep working. I very close on a couple of other games.

I have only play one game for a long time. Peter Penguin. I have found a trick to get invulnerable. Then you can get everytime point when you hit the other penguins. Work not every time, but often.

 

So I have stand on all 3 other penguins and get points and points and...

But after 5085 the game end, and the colors change. Don't know why. I played it on emulator. Maybe if you don't touch the joystick anymore for some minutes it ends, or it was the final score. But thats a strange score for an end.

 

So I will try it maybe in the future again.

You can see, that I have all 3 lifes. But the color changes, and the game ends after these points. All is done in the first level, if I not wrong.
