A little scanned blast from the past to bring back that childhood envy! Well, childhood for some of us anyway :D

This is sweet, i love looking back on stuff like this. I used to live for christmas catalogs...

So, did you just happen to find a vintage JC Penney catalog lying around, or did you find these scans somewhere else? :)

EDIT: Two seconds in, and i've already found my favorite part of these ads. In the description of the VCS: "Vivid colors (on color TV sets)". Glad to know these "coffee is hot" style warnings haven't just started in the past few years. :D

It's Super Breakout with all the markings airbrushed out.

That Gemini is a was a pretty good deal compared to the 2600 back in the day. Essentially the same system, with 2 better pack in games, and $35 cheaper.

And better controllers too, IMHO. :)

I see that in a year the ColecoVision dropped from its initial price of $249.99 to $149.99. I worked at Radio Shack for about a year or so about 10 years ago and almost every store I worked at had a stash of old Radio Shack catalogs somewhere. It was always funny to look back at things like the brand new "Video Cassette Recorders" and the likes.

Those were great. I vividly remember eagerly anticipating those catalogs then endlessly perusing those sections. I also remember paying the exorbitant amount of $50 for Zaxxon for the Colecovision around that time. I think it was from JCPenney's too. It's funny to look at the descriptions for the individual games. It's obvious that whoever wrote those short blurbs never experienced the vast majority of those games since they were either vague or outright incorrect, as in the case of a lot of the TI carts.

I also noticed that on the ColecoVision page, item B, which is the Expansion Module I - Atari 2600 Module, they have labeled as "Conversion Module I." Item G which is the Expansion Module II - Driving Controller, they have labeled correctly.

They also show the prototype of the ADAM computer, which I find very cool. I wonder why they changed the datapack drives... I guess the final version was easier to service in case of failure, but still...

It's also interesting to note how small the memory module is in the prototype. It probably didn't have any expansion slots (for extra RAM, etc.).

Scanned from a catalog here, which I've been very lazy about scanning things I keep meaning too :)

Yeah, I though that was pretty neat myself and figured others would find that interesting.

The CV roller controller and SA controllers(straight grips) look like prototypes as well. That Rocky screenshot must be an artist's rendition. Let's see, I order two Tunnels' and Trolls games and one Sword and Sorcerer and a Cranston Manor and throw in a Ulysses and the Golden Fleece.

I also remember circling the stuff I wanted in the catelogue. My parents were really pragmatic and gave us a price limit (even when we believed in Santa, as we pretty much believed he just delivered the toys, which was kind of retarded when you think about it) and we took a long time settling on the exact list of toys we wanted. The videogame section and action figures took most of my time. How do you not want every action figure fortress and special vehicle?

The first time I felt like I was a kid again with a christmas catelogue was this Christmas here on Atariage. I knew how much money I'd be getting from various people at Christmas and I surfed through the store a few dozen times trying to figure out what I'd get. (I got the Atarivox + 4 games set and the free Christmas cart with it).

Why would you pay $450 for an Adam add-on module for the ColecoVision, when you could get the TI-99/4a for $99 (after rebate) complete?

Yeah, I love looking at these. It was Atari and Star Wars I'd drool over in this and the Sears catalogs. Those were the days...

I noticed a funny typo in the 3rd image (the 5200.) The very last game listed is Ms. Pac-Man and the description reads:

"Helper gobble up dots."

Shouldn't that read, "Help HER gobble up dots?"
