Foxsolo2000 #28 Posted June 3, 2007 Adventure, Pitfall 2, HERO, Battlezone & Solaris Oh, I forgot about HERO. Good choice, Fox! One of the best games for the 2600 by far. Its surprising how many do forget about this true gem. Its one of the few games that I do play on a very regular basis. I urge you other gamers to give it a whirl

A Sprite #30 Posted June 3, 2007 I'm just surprised that Defender is on so many top 5 lists! I always thought this port was Atari's worst, being nearly unplayable with its terrible flicker problems, iffy collision detector, and blocky graphics, It's playable. My first exposure to the game was through the 2600, and I fell in love instantly. blocky graphics I thought the mountains were sky scrapers. iffy collision detector Which was caused by a neon rainbow laser that shot across the sky, and get this, it had to be made by your soul! How else to explain how the ship became one with it? Using the soul laser to avoid enemy fire was the most brilliant play mechanic this 12 year old had ever seen, especially since the timing had to be exact. I played this game for hours on end, silently writing dialogue for every character... terrible flicker problems Only until you shot the offenders. Robert M #32 Posted June 3, 2007 Adventure, Pitfall 2, HERO, Battlezone & Solaris Oh, I forgot about HERO. Good choice, Fox! One of the best games for the 2600 by far. I think the rarity of H.E.R.O is highly underrated in the AA database. I have never seen the game at any stores or conventions where I have seen at least one copy of just about everything else. I think it should be a 7 or 8.

bloodreptile #34 Posted June 3, 2007 I can cheat on this one as I just bought the PSP activision collection. So I can say Hero (also I loved this one the Atari 800xl) Demon Attack ( I forgot how good this was until I played it on the PSP. Then I remembered how much I played this during the early eighties.) Space Cavern Journey's escape (I liked this game. Everyone seems to hate it but its great fun.) Planet Patrol (reminded me a bit of the old arcade game Mad Alien)

Omega is right though, perhaps it is rare elsewhere because it is such a good game to play

liveinabin #38 Posted June 7, 2007 1) Fall Down (a modern homebrew but the best 2 player 2600 game) 2) Frogger (a really playable, if not exact conversion) 3) Defender (as above, but doubly so) 4) Adventure (Genius) 5) Kaboom! (I love pretty much all of Activisions games on the 2600, but this one is SO slick).

Dauber #40 Posted June 8, 2007 If anyone is willing to answer, can you please tell me your top games you like to play so I can compile a game list I can go through. At the moment I am being treated for a disease which might take some time, so any suggestions will be appreciated to take my mind of things. Heh....follow my recommendations, and you'll have to be treated for addiction to video games! Top five (VCS) games I like to play: Jr. Pac-Man Toyshop Trouble Reactor Warlords/Medieval Mayhem Pitfall! If I could extend, I'dd add: Crackpots Ladybug Strat-O-Gems Deluxe
Bluebomber4evr #41 Posted June 8, 2007 1. Dig Dug 2. Pitfall! 2 3. Adventure 4. Moon Patrol 5. Pitfall!
toymailman #42 Posted June 8, 2007 Off the top of my head are two that stand out for me right now. I always go back to these and play them for the pure enjoyment of them. I will get three more added later. I haven't played all the games yet though, but the High Score Club is great fun to try games and see how far you can take them. 1. Indy 500 2. Lady Bug 3. ? 4. ? 5. ? As others have said nearly all the Activision titles are loads of fun. Kaboom, Pitfall I & II, Pressure Cooker, HERO, Decathlon, River Raid, etc.
BydoEmpire #43 Posted June 11, 2007 1. Demon Attack 2. Enduro 3. Adventure 4. Ghost Manor 5. Pitfall! Ghost Manor is one of those games that I don't really know why I like so much. But for some reason I can play it over and over (and I do!). I loved it back in the day, and I still play through once in a while.
Red 5 #44 Posted June 11, 2007 1. Tunnel Runner 2. Fathom 3. Escape from the Mindmaster 4. Adventure 5. H.E.R.O.
Lord Helmet #45 Posted June 11, 2007 I like it that these threads come up every once in a while...gives me a chance to re-evaluate my top 5. In no particular order: Lady Bug Star Fire Demon Attack Q-Bert Robot Tank I also have to throw in a couple of hacks...Wolfenstein VCS and Hack-Em are both loads of fun. Recycled #46 Posted June 13, 2007 Lady Bug Crystal Castles Solar Fox Star Wars the Arcade Game Can't pick a fifth...too many that I like....
BydoEmpire #47 Posted June 13, 2007 I like it that these threads come up every once in a while...gives me a chance to re-evaluate my top 5.So true - I'd probably have a different top 5 every week! For instance, how could I leave off Robot Tank?
fire!fire! #48 Posted June 17, 2007 I will never be able to pick favorites, but I can tell you what I have been playing over the last 1-2 weeks. I cycle through games and they become my favorite right then, and then it changes. In no real order so they don't get jealous: Galaxian Ms. PacMan Centipede Power Off! Threshold I just got Power Off! from the AA store and it's addictive. Threshold is harder to find but things come at you so fast in that game - it's a thrill to play. The other 3 speak for themselves! And the local arcade (bar) has them and I need to stay sharp!

Aegis #50 Posted June 17, 2007 (edited) 1. Enduro - hands-down best game EVER for the 2600 in my book. 2. H.E.R.O. - a masterpiece - never gets old. 3. Pitfall II - great game but I've finished it so many times it's starting to slide down the list. 4. Yars' Revenge - I always come back to this - timeless! 5. Starpath's Frogger - pure arcade fun! Which was a really tough call 'cause I've left out Adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Battlezone, Moon Patrol, Phoenix, Space Shuttle and Dragonstomper The 5200 is a lot easier (less games I suppose): 1. Rescue on Fractalus! - I consider this the greatest videogame ever! 2. Adventure II - still loving this - kudos to all involved! 3. Montezuma's Revenge - a classic 'nuff said. 4. Castle Crisis - a masterful adaptation of Warlords - multi-player mayhem! 5. Gremlins - Robotron 2084 - but with swords and Gremlins FTW! Honourable mentions go to: Ballblazer, Zenji, Beef Drop and Koffi: Yellow Kopter. Edited June 17, 2007 by Aegis
