Replacement Labels?

I was wondering if there is anywhere to get reproductions of 2600 cart labels. I'm building a set for my sister,and she has some that have badly disfigured labels,and we'd like new label stickers to make them look nicer.

If you can print your own, I have posted some repro label art in The 2600 Label Thread (post #85). Contact me if you want higher-resolution versions and/or other file formats. Some others have also posted repro label artwork elsewhere in that topic (as well as much custom artwork), and 8bitclassics also has some on his website. In addition, he offers die cut label sheets dimensioned to fit Atari 2600/5200/7800 carts, and printing service (though the printing is mainly for homebrewers to run off several of a single design, rather than for small numbers of individual replacement labels).

 

For repros of labels whose artwork has not yet been duplicated, you could use the scans here in the AA Rarity Guide to either print as-is, or as a basis to make your own hi-res copies. This is the method I use when I don't have a better copy of the label, or if my scanner isn't working (like now).

What kind of stock do you print on? Is it sticker material? Is it glossy?

The easiest (and cheapest) way is to take the files on cd to Office Max and have them printed on glossy paper. Looks great, and you just cut 'em out and use a glue stick. You can print them yourself, but it uses a lot of ink.

I print on plain general-purpose paper, then apply a self-adhesive laminating sheet (for glossy main labels), or Scotch tape on end labels (regular for glossy, "invisible" for matte-finish text labels). I have not yet found a solution for matte-finish main labels, but the next time I need one I'm going to try spraying it with clear Krylon; first a coat of gloss to seal it, then a coat of matte finish. To apply the labels, I use Scotch double-stick tape on end labels, or two strips of Europa Tape from the hardware store for main labels -- it's a two-inch-wide clear double-stick tape made for sheet vinyl flooring.
