8th lutz #1 Posted June 6, 2007 http://www.gamespot.com/news/6172089.html?...estnews;title;2 The specter of post-PlayStation 3 launch layoffs at Sony Computer Entertainment first arose at its European operations in April, and the publisher's workforce cuts have now arrived in the US. Sony Computer Entertaiment America senior director of coporate PR Dave Karraker has confirmed that a "streamlining" is underway at the company's Foster City, California headquarters. "In an effort to accurately align the company to meet the changing needs of our consumers and of our industry, Sony Computer Entertainment America has found it necessary to analyze our current business and to restructure the company as necessary to continue our standing as the market leader," Karraker said. "These restructuring efforts are currently underway and do include the streamlining of our operations and other initiatives to further strengthen the business, reduce costs and increase operational efficiency." Karraker did not reveal how many SCEA staffers had been let go. According to a unconfirmed report on the popular blog Kotaku, 80 to 100 employees at Sony Computer Entertainment America's Foster City location were laid off yesterday. The article says management blamed the decision on multi-billion dollar losses and increasing next-gen development costs.
Scumdogg #2 Posted June 6, 2007 This has to be due to the fact that Jack Tretton blew the company payroll buying back all the unsold PS3s.
Shannon #3 Posted June 7, 2007 Translation.... We screwed up so now we are gonna lay off all the little people who had nothing to do with the idiot decisions made.
swlovinist #4 Posted June 7, 2007 Sony is not out just yet....but they are going to bleed for awhile. "If it bleeds, we can kill it" Sony made the PS3 cool, but forgot to ask all the PS2 fan base how they would like to buy an over expensive system of $600. ovalbugmann #5 Posted June 7, 2007 "If it bleeds, we can kill it" That line is from, Arnold Schwartzenegger in the movie, "Predator." It's one of my favorite movies.
JimmydelaKopin #6 Posted June 7, 2007 If they want to save the company, four words: Twisted. Metal. Anniversary. Collection. ...and, to be on the safe side, make it PS2-compatible instead of PS3. They'd want people to buy it, after all. Of course, they could add new areas and let one play as the previously-unplayable bosses. Just a suggestion. Darkside 4-evah! Roadkill 4-life! Curt Vendel #7 Posted June 16, 2007 Sony's taking it from multiple sources, while PS3 has had tepid sales compared with Wii and XB360, lets not forget the $250 million dollar loss on the industry wide recall of all those Sony LiOn batteries from laptop makers and other products, the PS3 is only one of many of Sony's woes at this time. Developers are all taking a serious beating during this next-gen change over and many just can't afford to gamble on PS3. Wii and specifically XBL are seeing tremendous development traffic as those are two of the only lucrative avenue's for developers to eek out any kind of revenue right now. Its been hard across the board in all area's, Sony is just taking it harder then most because its lost touch with its customer base by alienating them with an over powered, underdeveloped, overpriced product. When you look back at 3DO, great product, but the pricing really killed it. Saturn was a slightly different story, overpriced and way over the top over engineering made the console unattractive to buy and extremely difficult to develop for, Sega lost its reign of dominance brought by the Genesis with Saturn. Dreamcast to this day is still a rockin' console, still love it, still play it... I wish Sega had stuck it out and stayed in the game. Curt Sony is not out just yet....but they are going to bleed for awhile. Math You #8 Posted June 16, 2007 Sony made the PS3 cool, but forgot to ask all the PS2 fan base how they would like to buy an over expensive system of $600. I expect a lot of PS2 fans will buy the PS3, though I think it's too expensive for anyone new to console gaming. Sony ought to consider a PS3 Lite without the hdmi connections

I've got a PS1, PS2, and PSP, and I might consider a PSX, but I'm not crazy enough to drop $600 on a game system. At $300, the model 2 Saturn did enough damage to my wallet.
