edweird13 #1 Posted June 7, 2007 I recently got a 5200 from ePay and both joysticks do not work at all. Is this normal? None of the buttons work on either stick so I cant test the joystick itself.
accousticguitar #2 Posted June 7, 2007 That is normal with 5200 controllers. Here is a FAQ with some tips on repairing them: http://www.atariage.com/5200/faq.html?SystemID=5200
edweird13 #3 Posted June 8, 2007 I got the controllers working well enough to know that I have to buy rebuilt ones or replace the start pause reset buttons and both fire buttons. So I will buy a rebuilt one and buy the parts to fix the others at a later date.
edweird13 #4 Posted June 9, 2007 I got the bottom fire buttons working and the start button working with aluminum foil but I cant get the top fire buttons working. Any suggestions it makes it hard to play Qix and Defender without the top fire buttons.

Any suggestions it makes it hard to play Qix and Defender without the top fire buttons. Could be that the circuit is damaged. Another idea is that the cable has a break in one of the 15 ultra-thin wires inside. Do all the number keypad buttons work (test with defender), as this is where I usually expect to see cable issues show up.

SINGLE TOOTH #7 Posted June 10, 2007 Here's what I do: Take a pencil eraser and rub the contacts until they are nice and shiny. Get a q-tip with rubbing alchol on it and rub the contact Dry off contact re-assemble. You can test the circuit by bridging the button contacts with a piece of metal, simulating a pressed button. edweird13 #10 Posted June 10, 2007 why arnt you gonna replace the circuit? They are fairly cheap. cause it would be easier to buy a rebuilt one and then fix the old one when I have the time.
