What's the advantage to selling in an Ebay store?

Recommended Posts

There is a $20 monthly fee, and you do pay smaller insertion fees, but the final value fees are higher. Another downside is that you have less visibility than auction items because when a user performs a search they will get all the auction items. In order for them to see the storefront listings it will take extra steps. So in a nutshell it really depends on how much inventory you have to sell and if you will get enough extra money from the storefront to offset the fixed costs. I know McGrail opened one up recently and I have been curious myself as to how it's working out for him. Maybe he could shed some light on that. Of course he has a lot of high ticket items to sell.

I can tell you that, because of the nature of the items I trade in (mostly retrogaming, some systems), eBay ate up a good chunk of my profits last year in FVFs and the overall monthly charge. If you have good-selling items to auction in good numbers, you will probably do well. If you're looking to sell a bunch of small items (carts, cards, etc.), you'd probably be better off building your own internet store. With sites like freewebs.com and the like, it is pretty easy to do. I am in the process of doing this, myself, though I still use eBay for the occasional auction.

My store, under construction. Pardon my dust, and please don't step on the duck.
