Gabriel #1 Posted June 20, 2007 Which download game service will get the first RPG? Will it be Live Arcade, Virtual Console, or the Playstation Store? Technically, Live Arcade has won this race with Band of Bugs. However, I think many will categorize it as strategy instead of RPG, so it doesn't entirely qualify. Live Arcade doesn't really have much to directly draw upon for the RPG genre. I guess we can hope (or fear) for EA to want to create Ultima IV Remix as a Live title. Realistically, just about anything for Live would have to be new from the ground up. The Virtual Console is in a very good position with possible quick and dirty ports from the NES or SNES. Most of those are Square-Enix titles, though, and they haven't exactly seemed to be jumping to allow their titles to be downloaded for $5 and $8 a pop. Plus, ever since Dragon Warrior didn't become a breakout hit, Nintendo hasn't been terribly enthusiastic about RPGs. Finally, there's the Playstation Store. Like Nintendo, the PS Store has the possiblity of quick and dirty ports from an older console. The catch is that the older consoles are of more recent vintage, and the titles are probably still easily accessible in RPG fans' libraries and playable on the PS3 anyway. Classic Pac #2 Posted June 20, 2007 There are already some free RPGs, about a month ago I installed Ubuntu Linux on this laptop with mixed results at best. But the best thing I found was that I get access to Ubuntu's software database and amoung the games availible is an old school RPG called KQ

If you want to get into free RPG's available for Linux, Mac, Windows, etc. then there are a lot to choose from. You can even play a free MMO called Planeshift. There are a lot of free RPG's out there.
