jboypacman's Blog - Its J.J. and Jeff to the Rescue!

Recommended Posts

"Welcome to the world of those two bungling detectives,J.J. and Jeff.Out to solve a kidnapping case, they run across all sorts of obstacles, not to mention the evil "Boss Kara"himself."

J.J. and Jeff is a Hu-card title for the Turbografx-16 that was released by Hudsonsoft back in 1990 and is a one player game.

It is a side-scrolling platformer much in the vain of Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog and is in my opinion a very overlooked game in the Turbografx-16 selection of titles.

Known as "Kato-Chan and Ken-Chan" for the PC Engine(Turbografx-16)in Japan. This version is full of "Toilet Humor"and was based off a popular TV show that featured the real life Kato and Ken.(U.S. version of this game was "Cleaned-Up" and is missing the "Toilet Humor").

This show would later go on to be the inspiration for "America's Funniest HomeVideos" here in the United States.

As mentioned before this game is a side-scrolling platformer and is filled with various obstacles and enemies. These enemies can be taken care of by kicking them or using a can of spray paint on them(This actually" Kato and Ken" farting in the PC Engine version).

You can also kick various things in the game like trees, fences, trash cans, ect.to find items such as food for energy or money that can be used in Slot Machines hidden through out the game.Win on these Slot Machines and you can earn food, more coins, extra lives,or even a longer life-bar.

J.J. and Jeff sports some very decent graphics and sounds. They are what you would suspect from a game like this and there is nothing wrong with this either.I like 2-D platformers like this, they have a charm all there own.

Games like J.J. and Jeff make me long for the days when 2-D ruled and we didnt need fancy 3-D graphics and 8-buttons to play a game.Plain and simple gameplay which was fun not frustrating.

I have to give this title for the Turbografx-16 a "Thumbs Up".Thanks for the fun J.J. and Jeff, now go solve this kidnapping case guys! ;)
