RBI Baseball going to the Ds

Namco Bandai has announced it will release its classic baseball series Famistar on Nintendo DS. The series debuted on Famicom in 1986 and has since appeared across other platforms, including the Game Boy, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation 2 -- in Japan. As you might have already guessed, the NES version was released here as RBI Baseball.

The DS version includes the Famistar, Dream League and Network Multiplayer modes. Famistar allows players to choose a team and play single or playoff games. Dream League is like a campaign mode where you can create your own team name, logo, uniform and so on. The network multiplayer allows for one-cartridge play, as well as via Internet using Wi-Fi connection. Expect to see a Namco All-Star Team featuring Pacman and other secret team, too.

There is no word on a US release, but hopefully there will be. The release date in Japan is September 27th.

That would be awesome. I hope it's so. RBI is my favorite all time baseball game (and 2 and 3 aren't bad either, and 95 on Genny was even pretty good) I'd sure be up at the store to pick one up if this coes outl.

Any baseball game would be good for the DS. I was so disappointed that MLB 2k7 blew chunks. :(

You're right about MLB 2K7. Right now my only DS baseball game is the GBA game Baseball Advance and it's completely out of date. I always play as the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pirates team in this game has only only player on its roster that's still actually in the real Pirates organization. I do hope RBI Baseball comes to the U.S. though the end of September is an odd time to release it...that's right around when the regular season ends for MLB.

I doubt it would be called RBI Baseball if it came here. That name was used by Atari Games (now owned by Midway) for a couple of the early Famista (not Famistar) games, but Tengen/Atari Games later used it for their own baseball games. Namco doesn't have the rights to the name RBI Baseball. However, Namco did release a couple of Famista games in the US under a different name, Batter Up. Batter Up was used for the US GG Famista and a US localization of one of the SNES Famista games. Bandai published one of the GB Famista games in the US under the name Extra Bases. It's possible Namco could use that name since they are merged with Bandai now. However, I doubt the game will come here since most recent Famista and related games haven't.
