godzillajoe #1 Posted June 21, 2007 It may or may not work, doesn't seem to work with my CX-22 or with my CX-80 (tried it just in case it was the wrong rom on there) So it looks like my trakball may only work in joystick mode, or the cart is screwed up somehow. Either way, it's no good to me. Maybe it will work for you. Or maybe you can use it as a drink coaster. PM me your address and it's yours free of charge. jetset #8 Posted July 3, 2007 Jetset, please tell us if it works for you when you get it. Will do. So? Oh crap I forgot. No workee. I tried with my Wico as well, not expecting it to work, and it didn't.
godzillajoe #9 Posted July 3, 2007 Well that was a waste of $$$$ and effort So WTF is up with the "supposed" trakball hack? Did ANYONE ever get it to actually work? Makes me wanna punch a baby!
+remowilliams #10 Posted July 3, 2007 I have a Missile Command TB cart, it works fine with my Best Trackball (aka a switchable Atari ST/Amiga mouse). It does not with with my CX-22. I also have the CX-22 MC TB rom version on my CC2, and it works fine with my CX-22. I prefer the CX-80/ST mouse version, the control is much faster
Crazy Climber #11 Posted July 3, 2007 I also recently purchased a Missle Command TB and it does not work with my trackball either, looks like I am not the only one...
djmips #12 Posted July 3, 2007 Well that was a waste of $$$$ and effort So WTF is up with the "supposed" trakball hack? Did ANYONE ever get it to actually work? Makes me wanna punch a baby! Observe that there are 6 binaries available for this hack in the grid of CX-80, CX-22, Amiga Mouse and NTSC and PAL for each version. I have a Cuttle Cart downloader and so I was able to try the CX-22 and CX-80 versions with my trackball. If I recall, the CX-22 binary did work with my trackball and it worked very well. It would have been cooler to have a menu or a select instead of several binaries but since this is a hack and it stays within the original 4K, I can see why it was done this way. Thomas Jentzsch #13 Posted July 3, 2007 I am sorry for everyone where the TB hack doesn't work (especially since you are missing a lot). But please don't blame it on me, blame it on Atari and the chaos they are (still!) causing by mislabeling the Trak-Balls. As you can see by some posts above, all my hacks really work, you "just" (and that seems to be the really tough part here) have to match the correct binary with the correct Trak-Ball or mouse. I wish it would be easier to find out what kind of TB you have. Any ideas?
SINGLE TOOTH #14 Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) I would really like to know. And, where can you get that cart?? Edited July 3, 2007 by SINGLE TOOTH
Lord Helmet #15 Posted July 3, 2007 Is there a way to tell if you have a mislabeled trakball?
Thomas Jentzsch #16 Posted July 3, 2007 Is there a way to tell if you have a mislabeled trakball? I suppose you either have check with a test-cart or -ROM (using SC, CC or KC e.g with the various MBTB ROMs). Or you have to open the TB and compare it's internals with other checked(!) TBs. The cart was once available in the AA store but isn't anymore (due to legal problems). Ask Al directly, maybe he can help you.
godzillajoe #17 Posted July 3, 2007 Well I tried the cart I sent to jetset with the CX22 and the CX80 Oh well, I will try getting one of the roms going with my newly acquired Cuttle Cart Will ease some of the pain if that works.
godzillajoe #18 Posted July 4, 2007 OK so i loaded up the roms linked here in the hacks section into my CC2 and did some experimenting The CX-22 rom works with both my CX-22 and my CX-80 That's insane because when I tried it on a cart it didn't work with either Also, it seems like you have to have the CX-22 set to TB mode and not JS mode when you power up because at first it didn't work at all. Or my switch is faulty. Now the CX-80 rom doesn't work with either TB So is my jet black trakball that I got from Best and is labeled a CX-80 on the box, really a 22 internally? Jetset, can you try the cart again with the TB set to TB mode before you power up and see if it makes a difference?
racer raul #19 Posted July 4, 2007 I have two MC carts... one works with my ST mouse (my fav) and the other works with my all black trackball labeled cx-80... Def hit Al for an explanation...
Thomas Jentzsch #20 Posted July 4, 2007 Also, it seems like you have to have the CX-22 set to TB mode and not JS mode when you power up because at first it didn't work at all. Or my switch is faulty. That's interesting. Maybe other CX-22 owners can confirm this? The CX-22 rom works with both my CX-22 and my CX-80... So is my jet black trakball that I got from Best and is labeled a CX-80 on the box, really a 22 internally? I would think so, yes. BTW: How did you like the gameplay? Thomas Jentzsch #21 Posted July 4, 2007 I have two MC carts... one works with my ST mouse (my fav) and the other works with my all black trackball labeled cx-80... So it seems your CX-80 labeled TB is actually an CX-22 internally.
godzillajoe #22 Posted July 4, 2007 (edited) OK so scratch that "must be in TB mode when booting up" Seems like my switch is sticky or something weird is happening, it worked now when I tried it starting in JS mode to select from the CC menu and then switched over to TB mode Weird that it didn't work burned on a cart though, assuming the correct rom was used. Oh, and the gameplay is fantastic. Edited July 4, 2007 by godzillajoe
Thomas Jentzsch #24 Posted July 5, 2007 I am not even sure if that info is always sufficient. What does your TB say outside? CX-80 or CX-22?
