sciarpo #1 Posted June 24, 2007 I have the uncompleted game. It's got good graphics and is pretty fun. Wish this was completed. It is more fun in a couple of stages than Zero 5.
Fighter17 #2 Posted June 24, 2007 (edited) There was a video of the Sega CD version and the Jaguar version side to side somewhere on the internet. I remember that the Jaguar version was better in the graphics department. I believe Soul Star was developed for the Jaguar CD correct? I want to hear Gorf saying about this port. sciarpo #3 Posted June 24, 2007 Yes it is for the CD. I saw the link on youtube, it looks much better than the Sega version. I have it and have played it( pops up occasionally on ebay), and it is not bad. The graphics look good. It is just unfinished. Wish it wasn't.

Cause nobodies really suppose to be selling copies <.< (unless Core was selling them then it'd be legal)
sciarpo #5 Posted June 24, 2007 It pops up on ebay for $25. I still see it get listed occassionally.
ls650 #6 Posted June 24, 2007 Be careful; the copies floating around are 'unencrypted', so to play it you will a "Bypass Cart" from B&C or a copy of Protector SE from Songbird.
walter_J64bit #7 Posted July 3, 2007 I can make a copy of it you want.
jaysmith2000 #8 Posted July 4, 2007 Core couldn't care less. I emailed them when the copies first hit Ebay. They never responded and never did anything about it.... There is a version out there that doesn't have the glitch later in the game...

Gunstar #10 Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) I have the uncompleted game. It's got good graphics and is pretty fun. Wish this was completed. It is more fun in a couple of stages than Zero 5. Actually, the complete game IS there, but the copies circulating are CORRUPTED, so it's very difficult to play the whole game, but I wrote up a guide/walkthrough about Soul Star a year or two ago, I don't know if anyone is still hosting it or not, but I'm pretty sure the original place I posted it was on Jaguar Sector II, and it might still be in the archives, you can do a search, I may try also and copy it again. But there is a way to get beyond where the game crashes on the final phase of level one (inside the mothership where you fight the 'CPU'), and continue, if you choose the 'medium difficulty' gate to progress (the easy and hard gates are far more unstable), but you have to kill the CPU without the Jaguar crashing, first, which is the trick. but you CAN see for yourself that the whole game is there, or at least see MOST of the game; just let the game run on it's own without starting a game, and it will flash through different screens and eventually start a demo mode. If you let it run for a while, it will continue to move through the menu screens and then go into demo mode, and each time it shows a different level, every third level to be precise, IIRC, but you CAN at least see many more levels this way. But I've personally gone beyond where the game normally crashes and I've played levels even the demo/attract mode doesn't show. I've played through 8-9 phases of the game myself, and there's much more, many levels I've seen in the demo mode that I've never reached, I've just not been good enough to survive further. It's finished, but the only copy that is uncorrupted is being hidden away by some collector or something as I recall, and as I said, what is ciurculating is a corrupted copy of that FULL game on the original disc, which causes the crashes and corrupted graphics/movies, etc. Hopefully one day we can all get a hold of good copies of that original. Core design had told someone that it would be possible to get it officially released, but only if that original uncorrupted copy could be found/donated. Core Design doesn't want the bad corrupted copy released officially (or unofficially for that matter). I'm pretty sure the save feature on the game would work, but unfortunately since it's unencrypted and requires a bypass cartridge, there's no way to use the memory track. This problem could be solved if an encryption bypass CD could be made, freeing up the cartridge slot. Edited July 5, 2007 by Gunstar
EmOneGarand #11 Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) I still think its wrong for people to profit off of unofficial copies of a CD game prototype, it should be given out free to all those that wanna see it Edited July 5, 2007 by EmOneGarand
Gunstar #12 Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) I still think its wrong for people to profit off of unofficial copies of a CD game prototype, it should be given out free to all those that wanna see it As far as I know there is only ONE seller on eBay profiting off os selling copies. Most people in the Jaguar community will make you a free copy if you ask(possibly costing shipping and the price of the CDR). I would, but can't at this time for reasons I don't feel like explaining, I currently don't have my copy, we'll leave it at that. But others may...there are some who have left replies in this thread that have made copies for people before... Edited July 5, 2007 by Gunstar
