moycon #1 Posted June 24, 2007 (edited) My equipment took a hit recently and my new Elite systems Ethernet NIC got fried. I wound up calling MS and telling them what was up, they shipped my a cardboard box and I packed up and I returned my console the day I got the box (last Tuesday) I just checked the status online and see the have my console listed as a higher serial number so it sounds like they are having to ship me a new unit. I was hoping they could just change out the NIC, but apparently they cannot. This is gonna kinda burn my biscuits if I can't watch the flicks or play the Live games I got on my HD tied to the old serial number without being logged into Live. If I just have to be signed on to my Gamertag... fine, but who knows, I might want to take my system somewhere that doesnt have internnet, and I really don't feel like having all my shit not play. I guess I will test everything when I get the unit back (which if they ship it back prompty I could have back the begining of the week, very fast IMO) , if it doesnt does anyone know is there are way to get all you previous downloads tied to a new unit? +Random Terrain #3 Posted June 24, 2007 Does that mean lightning or just the lights flickering? I wonder if it's a good idea to buy a UPS just for the Xbox 360.
moycon #4 Posted June 24, 2007 No, I have my hard drive. I just sent them the unit. None of my saves will be affected. Live account (like achievements and friends lists) is store online so I'm good there. The issue possibly is, all the games and movies I have downloaded via the old unit may not play if I am not logged into Live online since somehow I believe they are tied to the old serial number. I'll have to test everything out to be sure. If thats the case, I'm going to be mad. I mean yeah 95% of the time it wont be an issue, but what about when they do schedule maintenance? (Which granted is pretty rare) but the entire time they were I couldn't access my content. or if my internet goes out (again rare but still...) I really hope this isn't going to be the case. I guess I should wait and see before I bitch. Just wondering if there is a number to contact to have them migrate my purchase history to the new unit if neccesary. Scumdogg #5 Posted June 24, 2007 If the stuff's on your hard drive, it's on your hard drive. No reason you shouldn't be able to play it...the HD is interchangable between systems, i take just that with me whenever i travel and swap it out with the 360s at various friends' houses. All the saves and downloads work fine. You did keep the hard drive when you exchanged the system, right?

It affected my network, I do keep all my equipment of surge protectors...except when I set up my new desk months and months ago, I never ran the phone line through the surge protector. Lighning went through my network via the phone line and fried every NIC (except my original premium 360) and my Wireless Router/Switch. I have everything replaced now and the phone line set up so it wont happen (shouldn't) again. The content will be on the HD, but I've noticed in the past that HD taken out of the original unit where you downloaded the content put into another unit, require you be signed into Live to access (I think). Games revert to the trial version and movies say something about licencing or something and wont play. Edited June 24, 2007 by moycon
Mendon #7 Posted June 24, 2007 To the best of my knowledge, MS hasn't corrected the issue you are talking about, Moycon. They have stated that they are working on it but have not come up with a solution yet. It boils down to (from my personal experience with two system swaps from MS Repair Center): If you own a different console than the one you originally downloaded any games - movies - etc, you have to call up 1-800 MYXBOX and speak with a rep. They will confirm with you on the phone your old serial number, your new serial number, and your download history. They will then have you create a NEW gamer-tag with all the necessary info on your new system assigned to that gamer-tag. You sit back and wait..... in 2 - 4 weeks you will receive a phone call from MS asking you to confirm all your system info and download history. They will then issue you CODES that you will use to put points onto the new gamertag they had you create. You can then re-download all the the games - movies - DLC's - etc that you originally had. Real down side to this is that you now have a new gamer-tag on your machine with all your downloads assigned to it. You can still use your old gamer-tag and play these games offline by signing onto the console with both your old account and your new account. The whole process is a pain in the ass but its the only way that I am aware of that MS handles this. If this procedure has changed within the last 6 months or so, someone please correct me. Mendon This is the method I had read about in the past and it seems like a big pain in the ass. I just checked the Live forums and found this post: This is pretty big. I among countless others after having a broken 360 have had to endure hours of calling xbox support asking for more microsoft points to purchase content again. And this trick has worked for EVERY SINGLE arcade game on my brothers account and on my friends 360. Just deleting the game from the Xbox Live Arcade Games menu WILL NOT WORK, this is what works for me and my friend. Go to the settings blade Choose Memory Choose Games Pick an Arcade game Pick Delete Then re-download the content and it should be avaiable on other accounts on the same 360 as well as being available offline. I really hope this helps, i've heard deleting and re-downloading does not work for some people but this worked for ALL of my brothers games as well as my friends 360. Please tell me if this works for you. After the person posted this, an official representative of Xbox Support posted this follow up: This process is only recommended for those who have sent in a console for repair and wish to access their content offline, or make it available for use by other profiles. I will try this method when I get my Elite back, hopefully tomorrow.
FastRobPlus #9 Posted June 26, 2007 (edited) When you get the console back, re-download the content using the same gamertag you used to last purchase somehting. That should link the content to the console you got back from the service center. This trick does not work with consoles you get using any other means. Just ones that came back repaired or exchanged from the service center. *edit* spelling correction *edit again* Whoops - Looks like you already saw this on Xbox.com. Heh, Yeah like a couple minutes before. This is great news, I'm glad they addressed this issue, I will double check that the method works and let everyone know. moycon #11 Posted June 28, 2007 Quick update. I've tried this out with 2 games. Solitaire and Xevious. So far so good. I deleted them from the HS and re-downloaded the games. Then I shut down the console, disconnected my network, turned back on the console and logged into my profile (Was not connected to Live) Solitaire and Xevious were the only 2 games that weren't trials!! Going to have to do this with 42 other games. Probably take me all night....Still I'd rather do this then wait 2-4 weeks. This also works with video's. I tried to play some videos I had downloaded and they returned an error about licencing and wouldn't play. I did the same thing with the video as I did above with the game, now it plays perfectly even when not online. Good deal!!
Shannon #12 Posted June 29, 2007 Cool... That's nice to know. I've always been worried about having stuff tied to my console. It will still be a pain in the neck though when the cost of "repairing" a console exceeds the cost of replacing it with a new/used one.
alabamaslammer #13 Posted July 5, 2007 moycon, how did you look online to see the status of your elite once they got it. i to sent my original 360 in but only have the original tracking number through ups. they got my console how do i look to see what is up with it. thanks alabama
moycon #14 Posted July 5, 2007 Go to the Xbox page and make sure you are signed in. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/ Click on Support (Should be the tab under your little gamertag in the top right) and it'll pull down a menu, just choose Support Front Page. There is a link for Check Warranty and Repair Status. As long as you registered your device , the console(s) you have under warranty should appear listed via Serial Number. Just click on the one you want status of. I noticed that my Serial Number had changed. That's how I knew they were sending me a new unit. And new it was...Even had the plasic strips on the "chrome" Also you can just call Xbox and request status. Just give them you serial number if you have any questions.
