A Sprite #1 Posted June 27, 2007 ...what games were so good they made you play them anyways? It's hard to be a hater. A few games of Tecmo Super Bowl against my younger brother, and I was an armchair Quarterback blitzing machine. No other American football game has done it since. What are your stories? 2600Lives #2 Posted June 27, 2007 I loathe sports games for the most part, but the first time I ever played Bases Loaded, I was totally hooked. To this day it's my favorite sports game ever, but I'll say that I've never really played a sports title since then.
AtticGamer #3 Posted June 27, 2007 I can't play any RPG, but when I played Riviera The Promised Land for GBA I couldn't stop playing. The fact that it doesn't have boring level ups like Pokemon makes it very enjoyable. If I ever play a RPG again, you bet it will be from Atlus, Luminous Arc is looking promising. +FujiSkunk #4 Posted June 27, 2007 (edited) I'm not much into first-person shooters, but the Descent series has been a constant exception. Even now I find myself getting readdicted to the original Descent, thanks to the updated DXX-Rebirth project. I don't like "sim" games at all, but SimCity 2000 was a hoot. I might even have to try SimCity 3000 one of these days. While I've actually played quite a few fighting games over the years, it's not what I would call a favorite genre, and I can just about count on one hand the ones I'm actually any good at. One of those is DarkStalkers. What can I say? Felicia's a cutey. Edited June 27, 2007 by skunkworx
jboypacman #5 Posted June 27, 2007 Yeah am not a big sports video game fan either but Tecmo Super Bowl was just such a blast to play you couldnt help not play it.

Tecmo bowl was great but super tecmo bowl was awesome. I still get a season going every now and again. I found a super tecmo bowl rom once that had only the best players from each teams history. That was pretty cool
Cobra Commander #7 Posted June 28, 2007 PGA golf for the Genesis. Not sure about the actual title, but I had fun with this one back in the day. I just scored a longbox copy of Descent for PS ,I've been meaning to give it a play.
Atarifever #8 Posted June 28, 2007 FPS is my last favorite genre. Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Halo, Zero Tolerance and Half Life are probably all in my top 25 games. It's weird.
SINGLE TOOTH #9 Posted June 28, 2007 Not a big RPG fan, but Earthbound for SNES had me hooked. Don't care for sports, or sports games but I loved NHLPA '93 for SNES, Also Links (golf game) for the PC. What else....... Oh yeah, Sim City for PC, and Sim ant. Ha, those games were sweet. +atari2600land #10 Posted June 28, 2007 I don't really like shooters, but I love Faceball 2000 for the Game Boy.
Scumdogg #11 Posted June 28, 2007 Best sports game for non sports gamers ever. Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, for the SNES. I've played that game sooo much, and can routinely school people that are actually good at sports games. Makes me happy.
Magnus Wersen #12 Posted June 28, 2007 I really hate RPG's but Fallout 2 is probably my favorite game of all time. A bit ironic, isn't it?
Vic George 2K3 #13 Posted June 28, 2007 Sports games and one-on-one fighter games (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, et al).
Lord Helmet #14 Posted June 28, 2007 I'm not big on fighting games, except for the MK series. I'm a sucker for them for some reason.
Tempest #15 Posted June 28, 2007 I generally don't play sports games (I haven't touched one since Baseball Stars 2 on the Neo Geo) or 3D Fighting games (2D ones are fine). I always have at least one RPG (anything Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest) and one action/platform game in my system. Right now it's Lego Star Wars and Oblivion. I also make sure to check out most Music/Rhythm and adventure games if they pique my interest. I've also been known to play the occasional simulation or RTS game, although not often (Civ and Starcraft were the last ones I really played). I do like turn based strategy games though (Shining Force forever!) Tempest

Quadhorn #17 Posted June 28, 2007 I cannot stand sports or racing games, but found myself hooked on Gran Turismo 3 (PS2) for a while (at least, until the disc failed) and I absolutely live for Burnouts 3 and Revenge/4 (or "Smashy Crashy" as the ex calls it) and the Tony Hawks and SSX series'. AtticGamer #18 Posted June 28, 2007 I'm not big on fighting games, except for the MK series. I'm a sucker for them for some reason. Yeah I can only play Street Fighter II well. I try to play other fighters but I can't get used to them, MK was as close as I got to play another beat em up, apart from SF Alpha.
Impaler_26 #19 Posted June 28, 2007 I hate sports, every kind of it! But there are a few sports-games i really enjoy like Leader Board Golf (C64), Decathlon (Atari 2600) or Tony Hawks Skateboarding (Dreamcast).
Gabriel #20 Posted June 29, 2007 Modern sports, FPS, and Platformers are the ones I generally can't stand. There are a few exceptions for each. For the sports category, I can tolerate the cartoony golf games like Mario Golf or Hot Shots Golf. In the FPS category, I've recently determined I can enjoy Bullet Witch and Earth Defense Force 2017. As for the platformer genre, I like some of the 2D Castlevanias and the early Sonic games.
2600Lives #21 Posted June 29, 2007 I gotta say, I'm an FPS nut. Even the super sucky ones, I just gotta play, no matter how bad or repetitive. Everybody dumped on Doom 3, but it ranks as one of my favorite games of all time. Right up there with Metal Gear Solid, FF 7, and Resident Evil. I absolutely can't wait for BioShock! Shannon #22 Posted June 30, 2007 In general I do not care for sports games unless they are less sim and more arcady. I got hooked on the Tony Hawk series for a while. Surprising considering I do not really like that genre. Same thing goes for 1080 snowboard for the N64 which I played pretty much all the way thru. I'm not much for RTS style games. But batallion wars is a real fun game and the armymen RTS (although difficult) is kinda fun as well.
