i started playing asteroids yesterday to see how many times i could roll it

i got to about 250,000 pts before dinner was ready

i have to admit, im weak when it comes to food

but it was only like 45 min to an hr of play

Come on people if you're going to show what you're made of on the VCS at least tell others what variation you played. For example rolling Space Invaders on game 1, difficulty B is one thing. Rolling Space Invaders on game 16, any difficulty is another thing altogether!

 

For example on Asteroids, did you play with Saucers enabled? Did you play with an extra life at 5000? 10,000? 20,000? Did you play with Shields? Hyperspace? Or Flip? Did you play the slow or fast version (also known as the up/down vs. the angled asteroid path version)?

 

Not that it really matters and it's not a competition or anything, but those details are what make it compelling! Especially with a lot of 2600 games and their multitudes of available variations to play.

Speaking of which, I played the kids' variation of Missile Command past five million points one day. I finally realized that the game was never going to end unless I turned the damn thing off. It had been a few hours, which is a hell of a long time to spend on one VCS game, so I had to sacrifice the six cities to a storm of TV screen snow. Anyway, as NE has indicated, you truly can play some games forever if you select the easiest possible combination of game-play aspects -- and if you're so inclined to spend all that time!

i just think flipping is so much more useful than sheilds

I was screwing around with that new Asteroids hack last night and I rolled it, once, but just on the default settings. Took about an hour. Then I started playing with the select button...

No matter what game variation is played, you guys are putting the difficulty switches to "A" right? I mean it's just NOT Asteroids unless you got some good old UFO's attacking you! And that little pea-ufo is the worst with his accurate shooting!

take out the ufo, and take out the complete game! Option 4 with Difficulty A is the arcade default.
