There was an old Breakout type game that came installed with some of the early Macintosh computers at my junior high school called Brickle. The computer didn't have a color screen, so it was about as fun as class got "old school" style. (I think it was either Mac II or one of the Power Macs)

I still like Macs. I should buy one. :)

Bachelor Party & Bachelorette Party (same game, different sprites) also use a Breakout theme...tho sprites are used for everything.

It's fun to fire up Super Breakout every now and then (especially on the Atari 800 with eight players!), but Breakout-style games tend to bore me pretty quickly these days unless they can offer a little something extra, like Arkanoid-style powerups. Breakout 2000 on the Jaguar was a good attempt, but it was a little slow-paced and not nearly as much fun as it could have been with a real paddle controller.

If you like Breakout - check out the book "Pilgrim in the Microworld". Maybe this is something everyone's already read, but I just read it a couple years back and thought it was very cool. It was written in the early '80s, and it's about a guy who's obsessed with Breakout on the 2600.

I always enjoyed playing Super Breakout on my 2600 back in the day. When the 5200 was released, I was a bit disappointed with 5200 SB. The 5200 sticks were a VERY poor substitute for paddles. Today, a modified 5200 stick/paddle controller helps a lot, but it's still not as good as the ol' 2600 version. You gotta love those wacky sounds on the 2600 version!

I've always felt dissapointed with super breakout. I think breakout is a more challenging game.
