Red 5 #1 Posted June 28, 2007 I have to stop reading reviews. I almost didn't get this game because of the average reviews, and so far I find it absolutely amazing. I would go so far as to call it a must have 360 game. Great voice acting, great twist on the FPS genre, and completely bad ass. Here's an interesting video game moment: My character was sitting on the couch with his girlfriend. After fighting for the remote to watch TV, we played a little kissy face. Then we sat on the couch and watched 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. I watched about 45 minutes of the movie. It never stopped. The real one. The Gregory Peck one. I also watched an entire Popeye cartoon. I am watching TV on TV. Something is very wrong with that. Then I want back to killing people and letting my little dragons eat people's hearts. Heh I did the same thing in Prey, They were showing Killers From Space on the TV in the bar I remember, unfortunately it wasnt the whole flick, or I'd had probably watched it all!! Seems to me there was something else on another channel, can't remember what tho.
Red 5 #3 Posted June 28, 2007 There was also a TV showing 'The Man with the Golden Arm'. I think this was the entire movie too. Seems crazy to have all that in the game. Must have had to pay a fortune for the rights, no? I mean, I didn't sit throught the entire movies, but they really showed no signs of stopping. Like I said, 45 minutes before I quit on To Kill a Mockingbird. The entire Popeye cartoon, another cartoon I didn't recognize and the entire film of The Man with the Golden Arm. (And I am probably 1/10 of the way through the game.) Oh... and the game is really really good too...
moycon #4 Posted June 30, 2007 I saw today that if you buy this game from Target they give you a $10 gift certificate. Not sure how long that deal is good for or if it's at all locations.
Red 5 #5 Posted July 2, 2007 The game is incredible. Maybe it's just the doldrums of summer and no big released for a while, but I absolutely love this game. I love my little demon guys on my shoulders. I love the mix of FPS and adventure. It feels more like a story than 95% of FPS games I have played. Side missions, riding the subways to various places, etc. Games are far and few between where I can't wait to get home from work, get the kids to bed and play. This is one of those games. I feel bad for the makers because this may just wind up a sleeper that falls under the radar. Really too bad. With Bioshock close to release, I think it may actually be a decent summer for games for once.
RARusk #6 Posted July 3, 2007 "I feel bad for the makers because this may just wind up a sleeper that falls under the radar. Really too bad." That happened to their last release: "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay". And while we're on the subject..... Since Riddick, which was released on the Original Xbox, could not be made BC with the 360 they decided to remake it for the X360 and PS3 instead. They are going to add more to the single player side plus multiplayer. Should be awesome (and released later this year - probably around Xmas). I also really need to get "The Darkness" myself..... +remowilliams #7 Posted July 3, 2007 There was also a TV showing 'The Man with the Golden Arm'.I think this was the entire movie too. Yeah, there are entire movies, show episodes and videos. It's wild! The game is incredible.Maybe it's just the doldrums of summer and no big released for a while, but I absolutely love this game. I love my little demon guys on my shoulders. I love the mix of FPS and adventure. It feels more like a story than 95% of FPS games I have played. I finished the Darkness already, I couldn't stop playing! It is more than just an incredible game, it's almost an experience unto itself. The many people who will write this off as 'another FPS' are doing themselves and the game a huge injustice. This game is great. Great action, great story, great voice over acting and characters, great visual presentation, and stunning graphics. Fantastic attention to the little things, even down to the loading screens. Jackie is a great character, you can almost feel his thirst for revenge and the insane rage of the Darkness. Without ruining it for anyone, I loved the huge unexpected change of venue and added plot line for the Darkness! My only complaint is that it didn't last long enough. Oh - and those demons are hilarious!
Atari5200 #8 Posted July 5, 2007 well after reading this thread i'm starting to kick myself for passing on this game for Lego Star Wars II.

Red 5 #12 Posted July 9, 2007 ok, i bought this and dear god this is probably the most bad ass game i've ever played. It only gets better. For fun, write down all the telephone numbers you see on signs and dial them. It's an interesting little side quest. The side missions are very fun too. Atari5200 #13 Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) well i'm to a point know where i'm starting to get frustrated. Don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I won't reveal my location, but i have to bash the a button to eat the hearts of the guys i kill because it's to precise, not just having to be in the general area, you have to be in a precise spot and where i'm at in the game it gets frustrating real quick. also i found you cannot do any darkness powers while reloading and the darkenss tenticle is not there??? I've killed people with the tenticle but the tenticle never actually appeared, the people just died...weird... Spoiler maybe below?? Still, does anybody else find it odd that you go through most of the game with the darkness and Jackie doesn't even question it?? I mean i'd be shitting myself if all of a sudden out of no where these evil snake things were coming out of me and talking to me. Jackie doesn't even bat an eye and doesn't even bother to question it or even acknowledge it's even there until some hours into the game. doesn't make sense. Still a great game though. Atari5200 #14 Posted July 13, 2007 game beaten. With the game being beaten here are my final thoughts. No spoilers in my opinion. #1. The game is bad ass, no denying that. From the main character to even the side characters, they're all cool as hell. #2. There are graphical glitches here and there that though do not take away from the gameplay, still are annoying when they pop up, very evident in the first no mans land adventure, which was the main reason for my frustrations above. #3. As with Gears of War, with next Gen technology and power, there are certain "things" one would expect from a next gen game, Gears also suffered this, but it's water. Yes water. The water you encounter in the game has absolutely no flow. No wake from the boats, no wake from walking through it, it does absolutely nothing. Gears had the same problem. You'd expect for as detailed as the game was that something as small as water droplets making the rings in the puddle or the waves coming off a boat would not have been missed but they were and that's something that I would not expect coming from a 360 or PS3 title, Wii maybe, but not the PS3 or 360. #4. The Darkness shield. uh, what the hell is it? I beat the game with full Darkness level yet it's not an option to use. Is it something that is always on when the darkness is out? Instructions very vague as well. #5. No mans land. Nice addition and extremely creepy at times, was a very nice touch to the game since I had not read or seen the comics, I was not aware this was part of the story, though I suspected something from the extra content I unlocked. #6. Enemies. There are 3 types of enemies. Mob, No man land zombies, big castle thing. The first 2 are obviously the most common and between the masses you have to kill, there are only maybe a half dozen or so variations, so it was very lack luster here in my opinion on the enemy design, at least in my opinion. #7. The ending. You'll see for yourself, to me, it was terrible and a waste of time, gave no sense of accomplishment, nothing, great game ruined by a terrible ending. I am going to try multiplayer probably this weekend, but still, the game is good and in my opinion worth the money, as for a total score, out of 10, i'd have to say it's an 8 out of 10. Whenever the Darkness is in use the shield is on - turn it off and see how quick you die I didn't think the ending was great, but it was kind of nicely done and I've seen far worse endings. Atari5200 #16 Posted July 13, 2007 that's what I thought about the shield, but wasn't sure. Like I said the instructions are pretty vague on that and when you cycle through the powers, I was assuming it was a power and not always in use, the symbol of darkness shield never appeared. Yeah the ending, it was pretty predictable, which was one of the crappy things about it, but it also didn't tie up any other parts of the game, which was sad. I feel like it was a let down. Like Tales of Symphonia for the Cube, great game completely ruined by the ending.

rxd #19 Posted July 25, 2007 How do I open the locked door in the city hall station that's by that poison gas? I use the crawler to go through the vent and I see the lock on the door but I can't open it...
Atari5200 #20 Posted July 26, 2007 that's one of the gripes I have about the game, some parts you have to be in the exact spot, the slightest move will take you off the action spot, it has to be unlocked from the other side with the crawler, just crawl around and hit i think A like a mad person in every possible spot until it opens. If i'm thinking of the same door you are, that's what you will have to do.

Until then a message popped up saying hit A to unlock. I finally broke down and read part of the instruction manual...
Atari5200 #22 Posted July 27, 2007 (edited) yeah the game is fantastic, but the crawler can be overly sensitive at times, also is very easy to go out of control and get stuck in places. I do hope they make a part 2 as apparently there is much more to the comic that can be done, and Jackie is one of the most likable characters in a video game i've seen in a long time, terrific animation, personality, and voice acting. rxd #25 Posted July 29, 2007 Just finished this game. I have to say I thought it was great. I just wished it lasted longer, it was that good. Once I started playing it I couldn't stop. This was the fastest I ever finished a game. Now I need to find the next 360 game to play...
