Atari060 #1 Posted June 29, 2007 (edited) Hello, I was wondering which 7800 games have an ending. I mean is there a wave 1000000 in Asteroids, or will there ever be peace in centipede? Even Dark chambers seems to have no ending... playing it through from a to z in expert mode made my friend and me switch off the console Scrapyard Dog for example has a nice ending IMO... Best regards, Chris Edited June 29, 2007 by Atari060

Even Dark chambers seems to have no ending... playing it through from a to z in expert mode made my friend and me switch off the console Scrapyard Dog for example has a nice ending IMO... Best regards, Chris A lot of the later ones do, though not all. FATAL RUN has a great animated ending. ALIEN BRIGADE has a nice ending with some pictures and a story flashed PLANET SMASHERS has a more detailed "text based" ending. DOUBLE DRAGON ends with credits after the girl is rescued. IKARI WARRIORS shows you rescuing Colonial Cook TOWER TOPPLER has a simple ending MIDNIGHT MUTANTS has a really simple ending too -- surprising considering all the build up throughout the game. It was such an "epic" for the 7800 that I was a bit bummed about the ending. It does end, though. SUPER SKATEBOARDING - really lame ending. just kinda freezes, IIRC. Other games that you'd think would end, don't actually. Instead, they repeat. Examples: Xenophobe Rampage (a pisser, after four hours of play) COMMANDO (starts over, though I think the levels change) DARK CHAMBERS (as you note, repeats) NINJA GOLF (I think it may actually have a note that you completed the course, but then it starts over again) Games that supposedly have endings SCRAPYARD DOG - haven't beaten that stupid "special challenge" at the end or had the time to walk through it with the recent tips posted. IMPOSSIBLE MISSION - original was impossible, fixed version is just plain hard. They might end but I don't know Water Ski (too hard to get my interest) Tank Command (see above)
+Propane13 #3 Posted June 29, 2007 Vinnie, sounds like you and I need to push to do some finishing. I have never been able to complete Planet Smashers (can't do it in one life, always get blown up). And for Possible Mission, you're soooo close. You can do it; I know that the great Cousin Vinne can. Perhaps we should both try to get our game on to get past these obstacles. -John

Red 5 #6 Posted June 29, 2007 I know a message parlor that offers a happy end, but I don't think that's what you are talking about.
atomickneedrop #7 Posted June 30, 2007 Ninja Golf does have the victory scroll, detailing the honor you're bringing to your family, etc, "OMEDETO GOZAIMAS!". After this screen, I get back to the title screen, and can change the difficulty, etc. I could consider that an ending.
+Mitch #8 Posted June 30, 2007 Water Ski and Tank Command both have endings. For Water Ski you go through the finish line and then it gives you your final score. Tanks Command ends when you run into the enemy flag, the game freezes for a few seconds then goes back to the title screen. Mitch
Cousin Vinnie #9 Posted June 30, 2007 Yeah, John I agree... We should also maybe work on something to show the endings of all these games and put them on the Froo Froo. That way people could go and see what it's like and see if its worthe it. I have not beat Scrapyard Dog (tho these maps will help), Possible Mission, Water Ski or Tank Command I have beat everthing else: Ikari Warriors, Fatal Run, Planet Smashers, Karateka, Double Dragon, Fight Night, Choplifter!, Ace of Aces, Super Huey, Tomcat, Super Skateboardin, Midnight Mutants, Alien Brigade, Tower Toppler, Ninja Golf, and whatever else. We can lead the people to freedom. Vinnie
SINGLE TOOTH #10 Posted June 30, 2007 that's one thing I hate about the 7800, the games are mostly recycled arcade ports. If the system had more platformer or adventure games, it would improve the system's playability. Anyway, you say Rampage has no ending??? That is really enraging. I remeber playing Rampage for the NES for hours until the game is beaten and the ending was a simple "Thank you" or something along those lines. Then the title screen. :spidey: :spidey:

It just goes on for ever, gets repetitive (IMO) and has no real rewarding ending for your efforts. Of course, I was dumb enough to fight through it on both the 7800 and the NES only to be rewarded this way.

Atari060 #13 Posted July 1, 2007 Okay, then I can tell you sth about the end of scrapyard dog. As far as I remember (it has been years since I did finish it), when you finish the puzzle you see the face of mr big: the guy who did sell you all the goodies during the game. Then the motor saw stops and you get a daily bugle headline "scrap´s saved!" with a nice picture. I like it very much. My goal would be to film every 7800 ending and release it somewhere, but I have no videorecorder at the moment... I also think that lack of endings is a big disadvantage for the system... Btw. does ms pacman end? As I really like those cartoon sequenzes... I mean, I really love the old arcade games, but it´s a good feeling when you solve a game... Fight Night btw, also has an "ending" - winning the title belt. Is there sth special if you finish the most difficult tracks in motor psycho and pole position 2? I would like to see the end of karateka as I like that princes babe very much... dream of my youth
Atarifever #14 Posted July 1, 2007 One time I blew up the enemy base in Super Huey, then ran out of gas near my base but touched down successfully and it said "Good Job" on the little computer screen. Then it went back to the title screen.

As an arcade game they probably didn't want it to end, preferring it to be an infinite looper like Space Invaders and countless other games. Unfortunately, the fact that they used those city names and random generated maps leads people to think they're getting somewhere.

+-^CrossBow^- #22 Posted August 10, 2007 Just rememberd that F-18 has an ending. After the last mission I think there is a Thank you type message for serving your country and all that, and then a final ranking. Or...it could just be that the game basically ends when you complete each mission. Then you start over and select the next mission etc. Either way...the missions don't restart themselves automatically. I was also thinking that F-14 had an ending. But instead you just land on the carrier and then the game continues with more enemies to take down until you finally get taken out? Been a long while since I played F-14. Also, doesn't Ace of Aces have an ending? And technically the sports games have endings. Once the game is over...it's over. It isn't like you play a game and it starts a new game at a higher level right?
